REGINA, Saskatchewan, April 11, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A prominent U.S. pro-family activist was detained by the Canadian Border Services Agency Thursday for alleged violations of Canada’s “hate propaganda” l

Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality, had flown into Regina International Airport to speak at the Saskatchewan Pro-Life Association provincial conference this weekend.

LaBarbera had been targeted by a makeshift group known as “Intolerance Free Weyburn,” which pressured the government to deny him access to the country. LaBarbera believes he was flagged by customs as a result.

LaBarbera provided LifeSiteNews with a formal document issued by CBSA agent Darren Banick that cites section 319(1) of Canada’s Criminal Code and says Banick believed LaBarbera "may commit acts which would be against the Criminal Code of Canada."

And there was some inane neocon article urging union with these people the other day because they are so much like us.

Good question is who REALLY has committed the hate crime. My mind has changed from tolerance to opposition of gay hatred.

Intolerant Free Wyburn isn’t very tolerant.

“may commit acts which would be against the Criminal Code of Canada.”

This is called “prior restraint” and is unconstitutional in the U.S.

“...customs agent went through his luggage, his phone and laptop, and played a DVD of a speech he had given Wednesday.

Also ILLEGAL!

asked for details about the talk he was scheduled to give.

Also ILLEGAL!

They're not Many English-speaking Canadians are descended from American expatriates who had a beef with the US--including Revolutionary War-era Tories, Underground Railroad passengers, Confederate partisans, and opponents of the Vietnam War and the post-Cold War conflicts.

We are like you! Like you we also have an out of control government! I’m one province over from where this happened and I’m angered at how one of my most welcome neighbors coming for a visit was treated!

Tomorrow, my MP (Member of Parliament) will be hearing from me.

This isn’t going to pass muster. There will be fallout over this, many Canadians, not just myself are pissed right off.

Keep your filth to yourself!

I’m more conservative, pro freedom than over half your countrymen!

I fought for my country, I didn’t hide, I volunteered!

Don’t confuse an out of control federal government for how Canadians are, especially western Canadians. You will alienate many allies.

It’s that attitude which really drives me, it’s one of my pet peeves. I don’t lump you all in with the crime portion of your society and I also don’t call you all Democrats, so drop it!

Not really. For one thing, ‘we’ are not the same. Probably the two main things we have in common is the English language and suspicion of Yankees.

Canada is our worst enemy. We have fought six wars with Canada—more than with any other country.

I am a pro freedom, individual rights and responsibilities guy.

I did three tours with my country, mostly working with a lot of US guys.

I would happily take a bullet to see the original constitution restored.

I believe in Jesus Christ and he’s my personal savior.

I own a big truck and plenty of guns.

How am I different again?

Do not make this thread "about" other Freepers, personally. That is also a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

Yes, one rights lawyer idiot managed to do incredible harm. In a way that was a good thing, it woke up many complacent Canadians, and now we’re fed up, many are pushing back. We are in a similar fight as you are.

I have spent plenty of time in Western Canada and loved the people there. In fact, I offered to trade CA for BC and was laughed at. I also learned that they detest the communists in Ottawa as much as I (we) detest the commies in D.C. (BTW - I am talking about the Yukon and Northern BC)

Even though we may not personally live to see it, through God, we'll win.

Let’s start with 1812. I know a few folks think Americans defended themselves when in fact it was American warhawks high on their revolution win, that went on the offensive.

More recently, WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Cold War, Afghan etc, we’ve been allies and very good ones at that.

I am in Alberta, and we can’t stand it so much, we want out of the country.

A lot of us are way overtaxed, no freedom of expression (speech) and our gun rights are draconian, though we can own them etc, the rules and hoops you jump through are crazy, and you can’t carry in public.

American-Canadian Wars
  1. The War of the League of Augsburg (King William's War) 1689-1697

  2. The War of the Spanish Succession (Queen Anne's War) 1701-1714

  3. The War of the Austrian Succession (King George's War) 1740-1748

  4. The Third Silesian War (The French & Indian War) 1754-1763

  5. The War of the American Revolution 1775-1783

  6. The War of 1812 1812-1815
Of course, in four of those wars, we were English and Canada was French, and in the last two, Canada was still English. There have been no wars between an independent Canada and the US.

Yes, it's absolutely illegal here in the USA...but this happened in Canada. Prior restraint is absolutely legal in Canada. And customs there can ask what they feel like and go through your stuff.

I'm not saying it's right, but know the laws of where you're going. Constitutional freedoms DO NOT APPLY outside of the USA.

No, I know why they don't offer those same basic protections. They don't have a Bill of Rights and their constitution is not set in stone like ours is, consisting of various parliamentary acts
