(Dr.) Scott Hahn to Mundelein
Creative Minority Report ^ | May 10, 2014 | Matthew Archbold

Posted on 05/10/2014 2:18:27 PM PDT by NYer

My favorite bearded Catholic author Scott Hahn will be teaching at Mundelein Seminary next year. I read pretty much everything he writes...except for the real smarty pants stuff that I don't understand.

The idea of Scott Hahn and Fr. Barron teaching at Mundelein makes that a pretty amazing place.

Francis Cardinal George appointed Dr. Scott Hahn as the first McEssy Distinguished Visiting Professor of Biblical Theology at Mundelein Seminary of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake. In this position, Dr. Hahn will conduct research, teach and offer occasional public lectures. “Dr. Hahn is one of the theologians at the forefront of evangelization in the United States,” Cardinal George said. “His presence at Mundelein will bring his unique experience and his great skill at teaching to the future priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the more than thirty dioceses served by the seminary.”

Fr. Robert Barron, Rector and President praised Bill and Lois McEssy for their generosity in establishing the McEssy Professorship. “An endowed professorship brings a permanent benefit to the seminary. It insures that we can attract new scholars of national and international stature to Chicago’s major seminary. Dr. Hahn will help us achieve my goal of making Mundelein a powerhouse of the New Evangelization.” “I’m honored and humbled to receive this appointment,” said Dr. Hahn. "Seminaries and universities both have distinct roles in communicating the Faith and in forming Catholics who can transform our culture. I am privileged to teach in both settings, and I am deeply grateful to join such a dynamic institution as Mundelein, especially with its very strong Biblical Department and the emphasis placed on Sacred Scripture in the new curriculum.”

Scott Hahn will continue to hold the Scanlan Chair of Biblical Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville concurrently. That's good news.

The Rosary was instigated by Saint John Paul II, not Scott Hahn.

And RCs cannot know for sure how many (total) infallible statements have been made, while RC teaching overall is subject to varying degrees of interpretation.

Wrong.

Dogmas of the Catholic Church:

http://jloughnan.tripod.com/dogma.htm

See also the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Catechism of St. Pius X, and the Catechism of the Council of Trent.

Mistake #1 is to confuse a church being comprised of sinners which is unavoidable, with the systemic failure of a church to Biblically discipline even notorious impenitent public prosodomite murderers, and instead treat them as members in life and in death.

Conflating the actions of individual members (including those in the hierarchy) whose behavior falls short of (and in some cases publicly contradicts) the teachings of the Church with the objective teachings of the Church is fallacious reasoning.

Geocentrism is not the Easter Bunny based on what some of your fellow traditional type RCs contend

Neither is it a moral matter, so Catholics are obviously free to disagree.

while otherwise it is an example of the interpretive liberty RCs have in engaging in private non-offical interpretation, while condemning the same.

A practicing Catholic must assent to OFFICIAL Church teachings. Practicing Catholics (unlike the multitude of Protestant sects, confused Catholics and apostate Catholics) are united in the essentials.

"Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you; but that you be perfect in the same mind, and in the same judgment."

"That they all may be one, as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."

Prudential judgement can only be legitimately exercised in regard to the ways in which revealed Truth is upheld and applied. "Private non-official interpretation" of Dogma and Doctrine is not Catholic. When Pelosi and Kerry promote abortion, they have apostacized. When a bishop promotes teachings in contradiction to Dogma or Doctrine, he has apostacized. Obviously, there has been wide-spread apostasy over the past fifty years, and as a result, many "catholics" are running around promoting false interpretations of Church teachings. The confusion they spread does not alter the Deposit of Faith by one iota. Truth does not change.

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

Disagree we do .

No doubt about that.

No, the rosary was instigated by the Blessed Mother, through St. Dominic.

It was only in the year 1214, however, that the Church received the Rosary in its present form and according to the method we use today. It was given to the Church by St. Dominic, who had received it from the Blessed Virgin as a means of converting the Albigensians and other sinners.

The Mysteries remained untouched from that date until St JP II created, out whole cloth, his Glow in the Dark (Luminous) "mysteries". Hahn followed suit with his Evangelical "mysteries".

The Twenty Mysteries of the Rosary?

With Scott Hahn's "rosary" were now up to Twenty-Five "Mysteries" of the Rosary.

Maybe the Pope's Theologian, Cardinal Kasper can add his "Mysteries" of sanctioned Adultery.

From Amazon’s site selling Hahn’s garbage:

>>The Baptism of Jesus, The Temptation, The Transfiguration, The Triumphal Entry and The Last Supper. Only the first and last items on this list are identical to the official Luminous Mysteries and the others: Jesus Works His First Miracle, Jesus Preaches and The Transfiguration respectively replace Scott’s other items.<<

>>So be warned that you are not getting the Luminous Mysteries but an invention of Scott’s called the Evangelical Mysteries here probably because this was released prior to the Vatican definition of the Luminous Mysteries.<<

OK, so now were up to only up to 23 Mysteries of the Rosary; 15 from Our Lady and 8 from men. Maybe Kasper can round it out to 25.

Jesus Works His First Miracle, Jesus Preaches and The Transfiguration respectively replace Scott’s other items.

I wonder how many deluded people are actually sitting around reciting the Scott Hahn mysteries. Not likely this product is a big seller.

Inventing and selling Rosary mysteries sure takes a lot of chutzpah.

Maybe Kasper can round it out to 25.

And Ricca could compose the "Rainbow" mysteries, bumping the total to a multiple of three.
