I am not a big fan of the transference of either Ascension or Epiphany. Never have been…10 days before Pentecost is 10 days before Pentecost and 12 days after Christmas is 12 days after Christmas…no fiat can really change that.
It seems that those holidays are directly linked to the rhythm of the Paschal mystery and moving them throws off that rhythm. I can understand the reasoning behind the other transferred holidays, but these two always irk me a bit.
Having said that, the US bishops are fully within their competence to do so (CIC 1246 §2 -- With the prior approval of the Apostolic See, however, the conference of bishops can suppress some of the holy days of obligation or transfer them to a Sunday.). There is more than enough to complain about that the bishops have done exceeding their competence, so I'm not suggesting that we start a protest about this or the like, but it is still something that has always irked me a bit.

I sense the reason for the move is because of the travel distance times in parish churches in a number of dioceses, in other words, so Catholics can get to church!

"An old song says,
'I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore. Very deeply stained with sin, sinking to rise no more. But he master of the sea, heard my despairing cry. And from the waters lifted me. Now safe am I. Love Lifted me, When nothing else could help. Love lifted me!'"* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
