So the Pope did not just "call us all racists." He said that border-crossers sometimes face racist and xenophobic attitudes. He didn't say one has to accept all invaders into one's country, or one is a racist xenophobe.
I hate the expression of racist and xenophobic attitudes, because it tends to upend any rational discussion of what to do with this huge illegal trafficking of human beings across our borders --- something Pope Francis has also spoken strongly against, the immorality of human trafficking.
Do I feel insulted? No. "If the shoe doesn't fit, I don't wear it."

I don’t see where he said “sometimes.” If you want to be precise then be precise.

Whether the shoe fits or not Francis is hammering on to your foot just as hard as he can.
Basically, if you don't welcome these people, you are a racist and xenophobe. After all, if you weren't a racist and xenophobe, you wouldn't mind having them. All of them.
Pope Francis, go and keep thy peace. Nobody cares about your inane blathering.
