No, Jesus was the Christ; the Messiah. God incarnate. Being God, He did not need ‘time’ to accrue political power from men - he possessed all the power necessary to do whatever He wanted, including the power to forgive sins.

Jesus will come back as King of mankind and destroy his enemies. He did not have political power of any kind, besides the support of the poor and oppressed in his first coming
