Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Cobras are venomous snakes from the genus Elapidae. Most of these are able to rise up straight and spread the ribs around the head to form a threatening "hood", which makes a frightening and dramatic appearance. Some cobras can actually spit their venom, as well leap distances. This makes them a favorite of snake charmers and magicians, because they are a symbol of evil and danger!
The Cobra was one of the deities in the Egyptian Pantheon. It stood on the foreheads of Pharaoh's crowns, twined through the architectural columns of temples, and was a common hieroglyphic symbol. To the Ancient Egyptians, the Cobra WAS Egypt.
I searched, but the only reference to the Cobra in the Hebrew Scriptures is this one. The Gospel of Mark mentions poisonous snakes, and St. Paul got bitten by one in the Book of Acts, but these are not designated as Cobras.
The idea of a child being able to play near the Cobra's den is so outrageous that Isaiah must have turned a few heads with this prophecy! And yet, in the Glorious Kingdom of God, brought in by the Messiah, even the Cobra will become the harmless, beautiful creature that God created.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
Hallelujah and Amen
