Christian support for Israel rooted in Genesis promises, not end-times prophecy, evangelicals say
Washington Examiner ^ | 07/28/2014 | Philip Klein

Polling consistently shows overwhelmingly support for Israel among American evangelicals, one of the factors that explain why the modern Republican Party has become so supportive of Israel.

Critics have attempted to dismiss this support, however, by insinuating that it’s actually rooted in end times prophecies.

David Brog, director of the 1.75 million strong Christians United for Israel, said that this couldn’t be further from the truth.

“Any one who says that evangelical support for Israel is all about somehow speeding the end times, bringing Jesus back, [and killing or converting Jews] ... any one who does that is showing their own ignorance,” Brog said in an interview during the recent gathering of thousands in Washington for a CUFI conference.

“They’re pointing a finger at Christians, trying to make Christians look ignorant. They’re simply showing their own complete ignorance,” he said.

Christians, he said, don’t believe that human agency can change the date of end times and the second coming.

“It is really black letter Christian theology that the time and date of the second coming has been set long ago,” he said.

“Humans can't move it up by a second. Which leads to a question. If coming out and supporting Israel doesn't speed up the second coming by one second, why do Christians do it? It's clearly not to speed the second coming. They don't believe they can. It's impossible,” he said.

Brog said there were other biblical, historical, and moral reasons for the support.

“It starts in the Bible, the promises made in the book of Genesis, not the prophecies made in the book of Revelations, the promises in the book of Genesis, they believe, are promises made to the Jewish people,” he said.

RE: Genesis and the Old Testament

There are those who hate Israel who claim that the Jews are using the example of the slaughter of the Canaanites and Amalekites to justify what they’re doing in Gaza.

“Liberals” will always choose the obvious evil over the obvious good.

Exactly! God entered into the covenant with Abram (Abraham, later) and He, alone, passed through the offering, meaning that neither Abraham nor his descendants could do ANYTHING to altar the covenant. It was a PERMANENT covenant. Even though God dispersed them many times for their sin, He NEVER forsook them. Those who say otherwise are showing their ignorance of Scripture and are basically saying that God does not keep His word. He has grafted the Gentiles in for a “time”, but when the time of the Gentiles” is over, He will deal with Israel again...and has been now for some time. He brought them back into the land He gave Abraham for his inheritance. How any Christian could conclude differently is to not understand the Bible...probably from the lack of studying it. God’s ways are not our ways. He does not abide by our “rules” but has put His own “universal laws” into the hearts of mankind. Many pay no attention to them, deny them, refuse to allow others to, but they are there, nonetheless. God does not go back on His word. The covenant with Abraham could NOT be broken, and that covenant included the land. It always has.

Liberals crabbing about pro-Israel Christians being End Times Bible-thumpers show their ignorance yet again.

They think we believe that when events foretold in the Book of Revelation start to unfold, that Evangelicals will bring the popcorn & enjoy the show, with its climax the battle of Armageddon.

Guess they’ve never heard of the Rapture. How can you watch the show if you’re not even here?

And yet these same people remain absolutely silent about Israel’s government-funded abortions - available for all ages, all reasons.

“Replacement Theory” is something once espoused, on camera, by Pat Robertson, John Hagee, and a few others.

The other name for this is called “Dominionism”.

I believe that Israel, is, has been, and shall be just that, Israel, where it is on the map, and in the books.

(if you look at all the older maps, pre 2000, you will find that Jerusalem was the center of the rectangular global map.)

Romans 11:11 But rather through their fall salvation is come unto the gentiles.

The poor folks have blinded by God. True they can be extremely wicked and have turned their backs to God many times but God has not forgotten them.

I pray for Israel and peace in Jerusalem. There will be no peace until the Lion of God appears.

How do you understand this promise that God gave to Abraham:

" The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever." (Genesis 13:14-17)

It is an incomprehensible atrocity that since 1947 more Israelis have been butchered at the hands of abortionists—and thus their own mothers—than by terrorists. No nation is free from evil, it seems.

Christian support of Israel is rooted in common sense and is not only based on Biblical considerations.

How can any sensible human being support the religion of ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah and the Turks who massacred more than a million innocent Armenians a century ago?

But what if there is no rapture before the return? Jesus said we were to take up our cross and never promised a rapture.

I know, there was once a place called Israel, a long time before I began to walk this Earth.

I know, a few years before my birth, that a nation came into being, from what was British-post-WW2-held “Palestine”, and was called Israel, and was a dream of a certain David Ben-Gurion of Victorian England.

I know, from the accounts on shortwave radio, and from foreigners whom I have talked with, in my travels, that there were Divine interventional miracles abounding, during the various times of combat, between the Israelis and Arabs.

I know, from those accounts, that the nation of Israel, is meant to be around, for a very long time, Arab blathering notwithstanding.

For the record, there are no such humans as “Palestinians”. They are all the displaced humans from the creation of Israel, and are not wanted, inside the borders of any of their Arab brethren states. A case of dysfunctional extended families, and no fault of the Israelis.

Well....it’s the Evangelicals whom liberals think are hoping that the real version of “Left Behind” will take place in our lifetimes. The reconstruction of the Temple in Jerusalem will be the touchstone event.

I’m Catholic myself, and we hear of end times only twice a year in the Gospels. Otherwise, we are taught to heed Christ’s call to take up our cross and follow Him.

It is hard to face that what you have believed all your life was a lie. Many will fall away when the end times come. I am an evangelical and do not believe the “left behind” fabrication. It was hard but I wanted God to teach me the truth no matter what.
