The chairman of the Committee of International Justice and Peace of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) asked the U.S. bishops to invite the people of their dioceses to pray for peace in Iraq on Sunday, August 17. Bishop Richard E. Pates of Des Moines, Iowa, made the request, August 6, sending the bishops the text of a prayer written by the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Iraq, His Beatitude Louis Rafael Sako.
Bishop Pates recounted the struggles of Christians and others in Iraq who have faced the destruction, burning and looting of churches, homes and businesses and, under threat of the Islamic State (ISIS) to join their extremist brand of Islam, have fled for their lives. Accordingly, he urged Catholics to let their elected representatives know of their concern that humanitarian assistance reach Christian and other religious minorities who are suffering in Iraq, Syria and other countries.
Bishop Pates also noted Pope Francis’ calls for peace in Iraq and his observation that “violence generates more violence; dialogue is the only path to peace.”

Lord,
The plight of our country
is deep and the suffering of Christians
is severe and frightening.
Therefore, we ask you Lord
to spare our lives, and to grant us patience,
and courage to continue our witness of Christian values
with trust and hope.
Lord, peace is the foundation of life;
Grant us the peace and stability that will enable us
to live with each other without fear and anxiety,
and with dignity and joy.
Glory be to you forever.

Meanwhile, the USCCB continues to campaign for open borders. Seventy percent of all immigrants vote pro-abortion. Illegal aliens are being instructed to vote Democrat (i.e., pro-abortion) or they will be arrested and deported.
When the bishops stop campaigning to make the pro-abortion voting bloc unstoppable, I will pay attention to other things they may have to say.
A huge fraction of US bishops may indeed be scummy, but it doesn't change the fact that Christians in the Middle East are having a genocide visited upon them.
Prayers are prayers, it doesn't matter who tries to initiate them.

Just came home a while ago from church, and before the mass had ended, my parish pastor said about the Catholic bishops asking for prayers next Sunday. What will go on will be the reciting of the rosary.
Just like in the post right before mine, you got to realize and understand that we are seeing very old Christian communites being destroyed in the Middle East by Islamofacism bigtime. PRAYERS are NEEDED NOW.

The Maronite Catholic Churches will be taking up a collection for the refugees. Several freepers have inquired about sending a donation through a reputable individual or group.
Bishop Gregory John Mansour has issued an appeal to the parishes in his eparchy, to assist the Iraqi christians. He writes: "As the world sits by and does nothing to help our brothers and sisters who are being openly discriminated against, displaced, and persecuted for no other reason than being Christian, we feel we need to do something to help." To do so, he is taking up a collection on the weekend of August 16-17. All monies collected will be sent through the appropriate Catholic channels so that those suffering may directly receive the benefits. Bishop Gregory is a member of the USCCB but this collection is not part of any effort they may be devising. I checked their web site but found not such collection listed.

Sadly, the Pope doesn't seem to realize that it takes two to "dialogue" and one party, the Muslims, is not interested.
Also, what is there to dialogue about? The Christians were just living there and not involved in any conflict with anybody, so I wouldn't say there was much to discuss. Unless "dialogue" means letting ISIS take over and impose Islam.
I hope in the course of praying for the Iraqi Christians, some of the good bishops (and perhaps the Pope himself) will drop the platitudes and acknowledge the situation and what is at stake here.

I do not think that ISIS is interested in dialogue with anyone Christian, period.
Rather, may St. John Paul II PRAY at the throne of God for the Middle Eastern Christians!

PRAYER IS NOT ENOUGH! Write prayers on the incoming missiles to the muzzie cowards.

NO! To CORRECT you, both are PRAYING at the SAME throne of God for the suffering Christians in the Middle East RIGHT NOW!
There have been missiles shot already I do believe at the Islamofacists.
