Why would I have respect for those who follow or teach a false gospel? No thanks, did that once never again (see tagline)

What does that mean the normally people are not allowed to debate the email?

Focus seems to be on what we do, verses the victory that God gives us over the sin of our lives when he forgives us and regenerates us when we are Born Again in him.

Same fatal flaw that many so-called ministers of Christ are caught in.

I’m sorry, but there’s just something about that man that bothers me so much that even though he says things I may like I have difficulty believing that he believes his own words.

Osteen's prayer: "Father, today I choose to focus on the good in my life...."

I thought we were supposed to bring our sins to God in humble contrition and receive his forgiveness.

It’s ridiculous to have it as a devotional since it contains so much apostasy.

I like the message the devotional is trying to bring across. However, he should have used a different verse than the one in Mark 4:8, which he takes out of context. The “seed” is the Word of God. Jesus makes this absolutely clear when He explains this to His disciples.

All the disciples except 1 were martyred for their faith...not sure many folks at his Church would consider that your best life now.

I will NOT “be respectful” of idiots who “follow” this Elmer Gantry charlatan, nor do I think his “Devotionals” should be immune from criticism. Osteen and his psychopathic wife have no place here.

Maybe I'm just plain old dumass...but his "message" has almost nothing to do with the parable in Mark chapter 4...

This actually a good email.

I see too often people have emotional and mental states altered by what someone says.

You don’t have to accept aspersions.

You can be self deprecating and also accept that only what you think and God thinks really only matter.

People like who spend their time tearing others down are so lacking in substance, it’s the only way they find relevancy and self validate their existence.

To hell with em.

I’ll take what my Mom, brother and sister say. Their feedback is honest and rooted in seeing the best in me.

When I’m not acting true to my potential as a man, a person, a human..they let me know and it’s usually along the lines “Wouldn’t think you’d do that or allow that”.

Have a belief in yourself and unshakable confidence.

People are crazy, God is good.

Why don’t you all just ask the pope to issue a fatwa, burn the Osteens, and then schedule a genocidal crusade against their members. That’s what Jesus would do, right?

This is exactly backwards. We should not focus on the “good in our lives”. Instead we are to search and confess the sins in our lives.

It is, after all, the little foxes that spoils the vineyards.

Thnk you, thank you and thank you. Finally we can openly debate Joel Osteen and his statements without being deleted by a religion moderator.

This is an issue because at best, Joel Osteen is lukewarm.
Revelation 3:16, KJV
“So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”

We also need to consider the Osteens’ rather opulent lifestyle. He doesn’t need to go around in rags to proclaim the Truth, but it seems that he’s living it up just a bit.
Matthew 7:20King James Version (KJV)
“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

We live in times of controversy and Osteen is probably the last person to take a stand and apply his faith in the world. Has Osteen ever directly criticized 0bama’s policies on something so wrong as abortion for example?
Matthew 10:34-36King James Version (KJV)
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

No doubt, if I posted this on the regular Osteen e-mail post, this would be deleted

Ordinarily people are not allowed to debate this email.

Your statement is inaccurate.

On the Religion Forum, threads posted and labeled as "Devotional" or "Prayer" are NOT subject to debate of any kind.

Threads labeled as "Caucus" are closed to posters who are not members of the caucus. For instance, if the thread is labeled "Catholic Caucus" and you are not currently, actively Catholic then do not post on that thread.

Antagonism is not tolerated on RF threads labeled "Ecumenical."

All other RF threads are "Open" by default - like this one - and posters may argue for or against religious authorities, beliefs, etc.

If you cannot or will not comply with the Religion Forum guidelines, then ignore the RF altogether.

To not see RF posts, do NOT use the "everything" option on the Free Republic browse option list. Instead, browse by "News/Activism." When you log back in, the browse will reset to "everything" - so be sure to set it back to "News/Activism."

Joel Osteen preaches the prosperity gospel which is very un Biblical.
But I’m sure he would be a fine motivational speaker.

David Wilkerson s viewpoint on the prosperity gospel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9KUilKMDaY
