I Give You Permission

Christian philosophy of boldness should include the believer’s rights. In fact, it would be incomplete without a list of believer’s rights. I used to teach that a believer has no rights…I was wrong.

In 1 Corinthians 9:1-6, Paul wrote, “Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you, for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord. This is my defense to those who would examine me. Do we not have the right to eat and drink? Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living?”

...

Now a Christian may or may not choose to turn over his or her rights…but, for God’s sake, don’t tell me that a Christian has no rights. It simply isn’t true.

What are your rights as a believer?

You have the right to be human.

Matthew 9:36 & Psalm 103:14

In some Christian circles it almost goes without saying that real Christians don’t sin (or, if they do, they can’t let anyone know). The fact is high, unrealistic expectations can kill you...

...You have the right to be right....

...You have the right to be wrong....

...You have the right to fail...

...You have the right to be offensive...

...You have the right to think, act & believe as God leads you...

Anything that offers “a Christian philosophy” is suspect. Especially if it says Christianity is “incomplete” without men adding something to it, like “a list of rights.”

The work of Christ on the cross is complete, and it’s all you will ever need.

(If you want a truly uplifting read, go to the word of God.)

A very good article but I'm not sure about one having "rights". The items listed in the article seem to be natural indicators of holiness-not rights of an individual given to us by God to do as we please. I don't believe we have any "rights". We were bought with a price and are ambassadors for Christ. We are servants (slaves) to righteousness. God commands us to be holy even as He is holy-loving Him and our neighbors as ourselves.

As Christians we do have a choice-to attempt to be holy as God is holy and submit to His will, or to simply live life the way we want and be subject to His chastisement. From this perspective should flow every decision we make.

So do we make every decision His decision? Not really. And that is called sin and why we confess it.
