The Rev. Jim Wallis, founder of the Christian magazine Sojourners and a spiritual adviser to President Barack Obama, will be one of the key speakers at an interfaith event related to Ferguson Sunday (Oct. 12) at St. Louis University.
In the following Q&A edited for clarity and length Wallis talks about how faith plays a role in his decision to come to St. Louis and how his past involvement in the civil rights era compares to today.
Q: Can you tell me how you became involved in Ferguson, and what you expect from your visit?
A: It turns out I was in South Africa all of August doing a speaking tour, and so when Ferguson broke out thats where I was. What was interesting was how in South Africa it was all over the news. The way it was an issue in South Africa and around the world says something all by itself. Weve had local clergy brief us on whats going on and how it feels after 60 days. Imagine 60 days of this stress. It takes its toll on everyone. The people there are the ones who are leading this every day. Were going to be supportive and helpful, as much as we can.
Q: How does your faith play a role in Ferguson?
A: Repentance is a powerful theme throughout the Bible, and Im an evangelical so thats important to me. Its not just about admitting wrongdoing but also committing to making changes that prevent further harm from being done, and there has not even been any admitting of wrongdoing yet by any of the powers that be in Ferguson....

There is a wall of separation, according to leftists between government and religion. Law enforcement is a governmental , secular function; repentance is a religious concept. There is no “yet” here.
Jim Wallis will be one of the prime candidates for the new TV show “Who Wants to be the False Prophet?”
Is it possible that the Rev. Wallis can have a size fifteen, steel-toed boot swung into his rear end?
I thought that was Osteen and his wife that were going to host that show.
No, Joel and Victoria will be leading the Lakewood section on the Glassy Sea.
“so when Ferguson broke out”
All we need to know. The left is always inspired whenever an opportunity to riot “breaks out.” It’s just as predictable as nuts falling from their trees.
Repentance? That’s a good idea. The rioters, looters and other assorted troublemakers most definitely should mend their ways and turn from their wickedness. But I guess that is not what this leftist has in mind.
Yes, the looters and rioters have NOT repented.
Keep pushing Wallis...and soon you’ll be on the receiving end of a reckoning.
Occupy Ferguson. They do individual funerals also.
It always comes back to repentarations.
What stress? The perp's dead, and I don't think he's coming back to life. These people need to get on with their lives.

“Repentarations” - I see would you did and I laughed - good one!
Maybe there ought to be some repentance for trying to frame an innocent man and, earlier, George Zimmerman.
We need to put this guy, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in a room together and lock the door. Together they will fill the room with so much BS that they will drown in it.
