Well then, el Pope would be el wrongo:

( 1) It contradicts the Bible record of creation. Ten times in the first chapter of Genesis, it is said that God created plants and animals to reproduce “after their kinds”. The Biblical “kind” may be broader than our modern “species” concept, but at least it implies definite limits to variation. The New Testament writers accepted the full historicity of the Genesis account of creation. Even Christ Himself quoted from it as historically accurate and authoritative (Matthew 19:4-6).
(2) It is inconsistent with God’s methods. The standard concept of evolution involves the development of innumerable misfits and extinctions, useless and even harmful organisms. If this is God’s “method of creation”, it is strange that He would use such cruel, haphazard, inefficient, wasteful processes. Furthermore, the idea of the “survival of the fittest”, whereby the stronger animals eliminate the weaker in the “struggle for existence” is the essence of Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection, and this whole scheme is flatly contradicted by the Biblical doctrine of love, of unselfish sacrifice, and of Christian charity. The God of the Bible is a God of order and of grace, not a God of confusion and cruelty.
(3) The evolutionary philosophy is the intellectual basis of all anti-theistic systems. It served Hitler as the rationale for Nazism and Marx as the supposed, scientific basis for communism. It is the basis of the various modern methods of psychology and sociology that treat man merely as a higher animal and which have led to the misnamed “new morality” and ethical relativism. It has provided the pseudo-scientific rationale for racism and military aggression. Its whole effect on the world and mankind has been harmful and degrading. Jesus said: “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit” (Matthew 7:18). The evil fruit of the evolutionary philosophy is evidence enough of its evil roots.
Believing that dogs descended from wolves is not much of a stretch.
Believing that people descended from paramecia, however, is a huge stretch which eliminates the need for God.
When a church built on traditions and not the infallible word of God, anything goes....
Of course evolution is not inconsistent with God’s creation.
It’s embarrasing that we should still find such an idea controversial in the 21st century.
Time will tell who’s right.
Rigged poll without enough choices. No way 42% of Americans believe man was created 10,000 years ago. However they had limited choices and likely went with that choice because it started with “created by God”
End Times False Prophet ?shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
What a theologian ! This is the guy who uses the Vatican telescope "Lucifer"

to look for salvation when aliens land from outer space.
I understand the popes view and most likely agree but would not trust second hand information on exactly what he said.
I did not evolve from no dammed ape but if some one believes they did that is to their shame, not mine.
I do believe there were two parts to the creation, Adam being in the second part, that is where we get the sons of God and the daughters of men.
Evolution.... the truth about it, God has created.
This Pope wastes God’s time, it’s a good thing God has so much of it.
Alas, the “young Earth” group doesn’t seem to actually go outside and look at what’s there, what’s happening, and observe how things change & how long change takes. Fossils exist. Vast-scale geologic change happens. Take a good long hard look at what actually IS, and it becomes rapidly clear that what happened did so over a time scale far longer than 10,000 years. If all this DID happen in just 10,000 years, then most of it had to be made (to wit, just appeared) pretty much as it is right now - and if that’s your contention, I challenge you to explain why God didn’t make everything, as is now, just 20 minutes ago. God doesn’t lie to us, and to have made the fossil record, as-is with all the evidence there is that it occurred over a very long time, would mean God lied.
Just to rile more:
Light does not experience time. Whether traveling merely from this screen to your eyes, or across vast intergalactic distances that are unquestionably farther than compatible with the “10,000 year” model, the trip for light from its own perspective was instant. Holding to “10,000 years” is holding to a wisp; God’s perspective of time is utterly unlike ours, making vehement adherence to that timeframe ... strange.
Where’s John Paul when we need him? This Pope believe God changes His mind and didn’t create the world the way Genesis records!
I agree with the Pope.
I just did a search, and many other sources are reporting that Francis said “God isn’t a magician with a magic wand”-—in other words, He isn’t capable of the Genesis account.
If he did say it, the man is absolutely insane.
Great way to create a new schism.
OR.
The scientific evidence to the contrary is simply bad science.
Meanwhile, the exact same science tells him that there is no such thing as a seedless virginal conception. Apparently he picks and chooses when to listen to science.
Evolution defies the Second Law of Thermodynamics, probability theory and common sense.
