That’s not what Jesus said. He called it “a den of thieves”. They were gouging the faithful who needed to buy sacrifices.
I don’t see a problem with vernacular, as long as it is theologically sound and well done, which I take it is neither. Not being Catholic I wouldn’t know for sure.
But removing the bit about “the perfidious Jew” has to count for something positive.
It was part of the Gospel reading for today and I was following along in the Greek New Testament while the English text was being read aloud and was a bit surprised that it did not say "den of thieves." I just checked the other three Gospels and they have the same phrase meaning "den of thieves" (or "cave of robbers" if you will).
