Another day to go and hear from Dad ...
Interesting you would use the term “Dad”. I am speaking today from Romans 8, which contains our permission-slip to call our Father “Daddy God”.
I love every day, as each day has within it the invitation and opportunity to hear from God, which, in my experience, is the greatest privilege known to man (since the Word of the Lord comes to us from a different dimension than this temporal one).
But when it comes time to meet, greet, and experience the extra-special joy that occurs when we congregate together with others of like precious faith, that makes it the highlight of any week.
Praying especially for our beleaguered brothers and sisters in Nepal this morning.
We live in a time when a LOT of people live without human contact
Ohhh ... they say Hi, and touch bodies on the bus or subway, shake hands, talk to one another .... or rather ... talk AT one another ... but there's a closeness, an identification missing in a lot of people's lives .... like they think THEY'RE human, and if only the rest of the world would be like then ...... and maybe their best friend .... if only their best friend would stop picking his nose in public .... he'd be OK
HEBREWS 10:25
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
“Everybody ought to go to Sunday school,
Sunday school, Sunday school,
the men and the women and the boys and the girls,
everybody ought to go to Sunday school.”
Exactly - He is our Father and He loves us as His special children. There is nothing wrong picturing oneself sitting in His lap, with His arms around us, as we pray and rejoice in his Love.
Jesus "humanized" The Great I Am by becoming our Friend and Brother as He walked among us. Too many want to over-ritualize everything so they can keep up the pharisee-style guise of individual pious suffering and obedience. Romans also says that such have fallen from Grace by refusing to revel in the tremendous Gift of Grace bestowed upon us.
He also understands regular language - including slang , without all the "thous and thees". He made us, He knows us, He understands us, He loves us. No need to make it an inconvenient effort to not "hurt His feelings - we can't do that any more than a 1-1/2 year old can insult/hurt the parents by being a small child...
I drive 45 minutes to get to my church ... but it is always worth every minute... My Pastor preached from Samuel on David and Goliath ...now this is an old Sunday school topic.. he did well BUT that application part of the sermon was awesome.. He spoke of the coming Supreme Court hearing on gay marriage and the cost that decision could have for Christians and churches... He soundly presented the gospel and then likened the government to Goliath ... He was resolute that losing our tax exemption, being fined or going to jail ..our church will present the word of God clearly ...I love my Pastor
I worship the Creator, not His creation.
What a great way to recognize the creator then to worship him in his beautiful church
