Pentacost is not on a Sunday, except by accident. In the 1st century they started counting 49 days the day after Passover, no matter what the day of the week. It comes from reading Lev 23:10-11 and Joshua 5 to see how the Israelites actually did it when they first came into the Land.

That is what I have also been told by others, and my only answer is that it was not to replace the Sabbath.
