I watched Timothy Dolan promote socialized medicine along with many other bishops. There were two, perhaps three who bothered to go on record as saying it was not the church's position to adopt it.

Kennedy Catholics -- influential leftists -- have dominated the hierarchy in America for my entire life.

Every example to the contrary simply proves the rule.

I second what BlackElk said, if you want to worship God and not hear silliness, try Latin Mass. The transcendent beauty may remind you of how fleeting are the things of this world. And please pray for our anti-catholic church ‘members’, God can change their hearts and minds.

I've never heard a priest talk about "American individualism" from the pulpit, ever. And I've never met a priest who gave the slightest impression whatsoever of disliking America. The higher-ups such as Dolan, O'Malley, Cupich, et al who fly around and promote socialism are doing so in opposition to Church teachings.

I've known Protestants who had incorporated being American into their faith, making it practically just as important as believing in the Trinity. Catholicism takes a longer view obviously and doesn't hold nationality literally sacred, but there is nothing about Catholicism that dissuades strong, red-blooded patriotism.
