Why?

We do not know the exact date.

The Pope has no such authority anyway.

The problem with getting a single unified date where “all Christians celebrate Easter” is that even if the Vatican and all the Orthodox patriarchs around the world (including the old calenderists) signed off on the same day, there’s no guarantee any of the protestant churches will sign off on it. They pretty much do whatever they want and there’s around 600 million of them worldwide, with a growing number of “non-denominational” Christians who have no hierarchy.

—“the fundamentalism found in some parts of Pakistan where Christians were burnt alive for bearing the Gospel is not inherent”.—

What does this mean? That just because Christians got burned alive for preaching the Gospel is nothing to get excited about, because burning Christians is not fundamental to their belief system?

Better check the muslime calendar to ensure it doesn’t interfere with some muslime celebration.

Has he appointed himself emperor of all of Christianity?

This guy needs to learn that he doesn’t speak for me.

Pope Calls for Agreement on a Single Date for Christians to Celebrate Easter

Um, I checked my calendar and I have next Thursday open. How does that work for everyone else?

Ceding authority to one fallen man is as inherently dangerous to Christianity as it is to government. There is no harm whatsoever in the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on different dates, and I suspect the motives of anyone who would seek to “harmonize” its worldwide celebration.

Just as with Obama, you never know what kind of pointless pronouncement this man will make next. What does this have to do with calling people into the Christian faith? Nothing.

A good idea but premature prior to reunification of Catholics and Orthodox.

Isn’t the point of the date, to coincide with the date of Passover?

Christians are not bound to Rome’s holy days or any other part of her ecclesiastical calendar. We celebrate the resurrection of Christ every week.

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” (Colossians 2:16-17)

And while you're at it, pope, why not say something about the way certain people celebrate Easter? some_text

I guess the Pope wants to relive the Great Schism with the Orthodox church.

It’s called Passover, and it is Nisan 14. According to the barley.

“Pope Francis today proposed that all Christians celebrate Easter at the same time.”

Christians, sub: Catholics. In any event Pope Frank doesn’t even speak for all of them.

Pope Francis today proposed that all Christians celebrate Easter at the same time. He did so, noting that “The Catholic Church has been willing since Paul VI to set a date and give up the first solstice after the full moon in March" by which Easter is established.

You don't say? Paul VI was willing to give up yet another tradition in the Church? Color me shocked.

Now if Francis truly believed in the Catholic Faith he would know and expect that when the Orthodox returned to the Catholic Church, then we'd all have the same date for Easter. But Francis doesn't believe that the Orthodox needs to return to the Catholic Faith.
