Ted Cruz Hires Couple Behind Anti-Gay Billboards to Iowa Team

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz announced Tuesday that he hired a couple who plans to erect 1,000 anti-gay marriage billboards around the country to his Iowa leadership team, the Guardian reports.

Betty and Richard Odgaard lost a lawsuit earlier this year after refusing to serve same-sex couples at their wedding business. After having to pay a $5,000 fine and being instructed to not discriminate based on sexual orientation, the Odgaards decided to close up shop and start a new organization with the goal of putting up 1,000 billboards across America that attack marriage equality. So far, they've erected one in Oklahoma.

But it looks like the couple may have to put their anti-gay marriage dreams aside for now and help out Cruz, who described the Odgaards as "courageous conservatives" who will be part of "a strong leadership team to win the Iowa caucuses."

This isn't the first time the Odgaards and Cruz have teamed up together. The couple made an appearance in Cruz's video campaign, where they claim they were "forced" to close their wedding business because of their religious beliefs.

The Odgaard's ministry, God's Original Design, is a nonprofit group and is listed as a 501(c)(3) organization, which means it doesn't have to pay taxes on the money it collects. According to the ministry's website and Facebook page, the billboards will be fully funded by donations and will "give a voice to the 'silent majority,'" or those who do not support same-sex marriage.

The couple's first billboard went up on July 24 and is a "14'x48' lighted beauty located on US 69/75 greeting north bound traffic 5 miles south of Durant, OK," the organization wrote on Facebook. "This billboard is funded 100% by the your generous donations. One down and 999 to go for 1,000 points of light. Thank you and God bless!"

A spokesman for Cruz said the campaign is aware of the Odgaard's ministry.

"The Odgaards signed on with Ted Cruz and they're supporters of ours, and when the senator heard their story and visited their property he was moved by it," Rick Tyler told the Guardian. "So we're well aware of their situation and their plight."

Sounds like the homonazis are going to pay the price in spades for bullying the Osgaards. I’d say they are going to regret it big time in fact.

We had “marriage equality”, any one of statuatory age in possession of his faculties can marry any member of the opposite sex in possession of her faculties provided that the prospective spouse is not already married or too closely related to the the person in question. That’s marriage equality.

There is no such thing as “marriage equality” at least until a gay couple can conceive a child within their “marriage.”

That is the primary function of a marriage...to conceive and raise children. This is a physical impossibly for same sex couples....therefore there is no equality with heterosexual marriage. Never is, and never can be no matter what the black robed fools ruled.

The billboard is described as a “lighted beauty”? From a LGBT site? I’m amazed they didn’t trash it.
