Kim Davis seemed to put an end to Pope Francis fever.
The controversial county clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky, has been drawing negative attention on social media since she came to the forefront of the news for denying same-sex couples marriage licenses guaranteed to them by the Fourteenth Amendment.
Now the Pope is getting some of that same social media heat for meeting with the embattled clerk during his visit to the United States last week.
The meeting was first disclosed by Davis' attorney and has since been confirmed by the Vatican.
When reporters asked the pope about Davis on Sunday he said he didn't know much about the situation but that he supports conscientious objection.
"Conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right," Francis said. "It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right."
