Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, Oriental Orthodox, and Protestant leaders in Turkey gathered at the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in Istanbul to announce the publication of Basic Principles of Christianity, a work written for a Muslim audience.

"It is our duty to inform our Muslim brothers and sisters correctly about Christianity, whose presence in these lands goes back a long way," said Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, according to a Turkish newspaper report.

Istanbul churches united on "Basic principles of Christianity" after 1,700 years (Today's Zaman)

> A presence far longer than Islam’s.

And with a far more positive outcome.

Christians: publish books. Muslims: chop off heads and enslave non-Muslim women.

Let’s make this really interesting...how about just dropping this in flyer form all over the region:

Nicene or Apostles' Creed would be a good start.

I'd be interested in seeing that document.

The Trinity is going to be an offence. (tough!)

When I was a visiting professor in Istanbul, I would from time to time discuss religion with my Turkish colleagues. The Trinity was the topic I was most frequently asked about. I'm not sure I convinced anyone, but at least they accepted what I said as a statement of Christian belief, even if they disagreed with it. .
