I'm trying to be charitable to Dolan here. The uncharitable explanation is that Dolan himself is a fully paid up member of the lavender mafia and is sympathetic toward men like Miqueli.
As Voris mentions in the interview, however, all of this causes one to wonder about the faith and beliefs of these men. Do they not believe in the Real Presence? Do they not believe that each time a priest such as Miqueli celebrates Mass, a terrible sacrilege takes place?

Regarding #2. I’m sure Dolan knows too much psychology to hold such a theory.
Men do not “become” pedophiles because of the unavailability of adults, male or female. All non-pedophile men, whether gay or straight, are revolted by the thought of pedophilia, and nothing “converts” them into pedophiles.
I think THE stupidest comment (which has appeared hundreds, if not thousands of times on FR) is that clerical celibacy in the Catholic Church is the reason some priests molested children. I.e., that they would not have turned into pedophiles if they could get married. Such idiocy.
Dolan’s behavior is explainable by the fact that he is a faithless careerist. Such men cover up anything that threatens the veneer of success and competence. The fact that Dolan has maintained this coverup AFTER Miqueli was exposed certainly suggests that Dolan has skeletons in his closet, which the lavender mafia could use to end his career.
