Which point testifies to the fact that as much as the defenders of Rome would like to relegate Francis to being a fringe or minority RC, he is more the mainstream, and which RCs they must own, as Rome does. Meanwhile, the internal debates continue, including whether papal elections are infallible and what magisterial class each teachings fall under, and to what degree of assent social encyclicals require and other public papal teaching, as well as the meanings of teachings in general.
We Prots trust Him to lead us into all truth: we've seen no need to pray to Mary at all.
Huh?
He's just a man; too.
The Catholic 'dogma' is cast in stone. There'll be NO changes in it at all.
To change would be to admit previous error; and we ALL know that ROME is infallible since Day One.
Elsie:
Ok, what does that have to do with the post. Really, this is why many threads in the religion forum are basically BS. The issue here is not about asking Mary to pray for us or a debate about Protestants. There was nothing in it that was about Protestantism. The subject was that Pope Francis is not a good theologian, and on that point, I agree, he is not. Never has been and never will be.
Where did I say anything about Mary or “Protestants” in my post. Please tell me. You are typical of many here who are just looking to get into a “fight, allegorically” about religion all the time. Again, Nothing in the article was about Protestants nor did I say anything about Protestants in my post. Take it somewhere else. I have said repeatedly I am not interested in that, and I have said so to you in several threads in the past.
Everyone who is NOT a 'good' Catholic theologically IS a Prot!
(I've heard this over and over from our rabid FR Roman apologists.)
Why the HEck ISN'T the top guy in Rome a 'good theologian'?
He's YOUR albatross; wear him with PRIDE!
All I can say is, "If you don't want to participate in a 'fight', then just IGNORE the temptation when it arises."
Elsie:
Not, necessarily, lots of Theologians that are Catholic have had their credentials taken away, doesn’t make them Not Catholic. Hans Kung is one of them, the late Fr. Richard McBrien of Notre Dame wrote a theology book and it did not get an imprimatur.
And these so called FR Roman Apologist you speak of are just laymen and laywomen expressing a view, that does not make it true. Some Protestants actually may hold as much of the Catholic faith as some bad Catholics. Traditional Anglicans, the so called Anglo-Catholic wing of the Church of England are very Catholic on most points. Some confessional Lutherans are very Catholic on many points. Most of the Eastern Orthodox are very, very, very Catholic on just about every point.
That being said, The Pope is not required to be the best theologian in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis is not a good theologian, he is still the Pope, albeit not a good theologian. The previous Pope, Pope Benedict was an excellent theologian, had 2 Doctoral Degrees in the area of Theology, one rooted in Saint Augustine and the Other rooted in Saint Bonaventure (medieval Catholic theologian).
Pope John Paul 2 was also a Philosophy student, but I would argue much better as a Theologian than Francis.
With that said, I still stand my the point of my post. The thread was not about Catholic and Protestantism.
And he is not my albatross, I still recognize him as the Pope, just I don’t think he is too swift and I trust God will protect the Church even when the Pope is not to smart.
In some sense it points to the Divine origin of the institution of the Bishop of Rome, despite man’s folly, God protects it and even though Pope Francis drives me crazy at times, the overwhelming majority of Catholics don’t go off and start a new Church because they don’t care for the Pope who happens to be in charge.
Yet, many FR Catholics are absolutely riled at him.
Agree, like I said, not anywhere near as good a Pope as the Late Pope John Paul II nor Pope Benedict Emeritus. He is the Pope just not a good one, in my view.
