Yeah I knew about the Didache when I wrote the article, it’s a fascinating piece of writing that Christians should be more familiar with. However, it isn’t part of the canon and hence not scripture, even if it is a valuable insight into the early churches moral consciousness.

You are correct, it is not canonical; but I referred to the Didache mostly because of its antiquity.

I remember when I first read it, being astounded that people in the first century had the medical knowledge to commit such atrocities...

I was naïve; I must admit!

I agree ‘it is a valuable insight into the early churches moral consciousness.’ ~ Also insight into the depths of depravity possible in our (fallen) nature.
