Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Yesterday, one of our beloved Prayer Warriors posited the idea that the "Elect Lady" in 2 John was Jerusalem. That actually made a lot of sense, as some of her children were believers and some weren't, and she was surrounded by those who were trying to corrupt her faith. The idea and the supporting Scriptures made sense to me, although I believe there was a real lady as well. It would not be the first time Scripture has had many layers of meaning!
Today's letter is addressed to Gaius, which is a Roman name. Gaius is obviously a Gentile Believer. The two other people in the letter have Greek names, so they are Gentiles as well. Coming right after the letter to the "Elect Lady", who could be Jerusalem, this letter is addressed and about Gentiles. These two groups of people in the early Church struggled with each other, and John's two very personal short letters may be addressing this issue.
While both of these letters seem to be just ordinary personal correspondence in the days before email and twitter, they were included in Scripture and canonized without any argument from the Early Church. Other Books went through a vetting process, and some are contested to this day. So it is not far-fetched to say that they can have a deeper meaning for all of us, if we look carefully!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
This Symbol Represents Christians in The Middle East, who desperately need our Prayers.
Hallelujah and Amen
