Ethicist David Gushee’s evolve-or-else warning to religious conservatives about their inevitable clash of orthodoxies with progressives is a sober reminder of the question over what variety of liberalism they will face in the days ahead.

Will a reflexively intolerant progressivism prevail, or is it possible that goodwill, liberal pluralism can frame what happens in American public life as homosexuality and transgenderism become mainstreamed? Like The American Conservative’s Rod Dreher, who has been an online hero documenting the pace of cultural change around American sexual mores, I am pessimistic at the prospect that liberal pluralism will win the day.

Most people of faith are ignorant of the virulent hatred that liberals have towards Christians.

It is no longer a radical fringe. The left is solidly committed to the most extreme agendas of the sexual revolutionaries, and they are determined to suppress any expression of traditional religious teaching on sexual morality.

Leftists took on the facade of “liberal” and “tolerance” only to garner & guilt enough support to reach sufficient power so they could destroy other views.

“Progressives” are convinced they know better and have every right to force their ways on others.

Most of the people on this Forum are aware of this. I am glad that you are aware of it.

Many other Christians are not aware.

You are right. The liberals will not call this off.

Christians need to defend our faith.

The irony about the sex-obsessed and those who wish to destroy traditional, religious morality and religion itself, is that most of them will some day hit the age at which sex is the farthest thing from their minds and capabilities, and their next big thrill will be their exit. Then what?

It is a virulent hatred. It drives so much that goes on in the political and social arena. And I think you are correct that most. Christians are unaware of it and the extreme hatred.

...here to stay is the ominous ultimatum, admitted by Gushee himself: “Culture warriors who criticize me believe they are defending the True Faith from compromising liberals like me. I believe I am defending the Religion of Jesus from intolerant ideologues like them. We will never, ever agree. Only God can judge.

In my experience, people who look for fights don't really know what actual fighting is.

Most people that hate Christians have no idea the virulent hatred Muslims have toward anti-Christians.

They think once all the Christians have their heads cut off the Islamic blood lust will be satisfied and their sinister evil souls will be spared the Muslim slaughter.

A part of the problem with Christians imo, is the following. Christian parents evidently haven’t been making sure that their children are being taught why the Founding States made the Constitution — to limit (cripple) the federal government’s powers.

In other words, since the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect politically correct LGBTQ “rights,” the corrupt federal government actually has no constitutional authority to address such issues — it’s a 10th Amendment-protected state power issue.

In fact, as evidenced by pro-gay activist state officials harassing Christian business owners, Christians evidently also do not understand that the states made the 14th Amendment in part to further limit state powers, the states prohibiting themselves from abridging personal rights that they have amended the Constitution to expressly protect.

14th Amendment, Section 1: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Otherwise, misguided, low-information pro-LGBTQ state officials probably wouldn’t be getting away with wrongly using constitutionally unprotected LGBTQ rights to trump 1st Amendment protected religious expression and speech.

Citizens with religious convictions should also note regarding exercising their 14th Amendment protections that Acts 22:23-30 shows that Paul claimed his rights as a Roman citizen to save himself from being flogged.
