KEYWORDS:
It's a hit piece. There really is no other way to describe it. The lack of balance and naked journalistic bias is breathtaking, even for the Times. How dare a church that doesn't support the pan-sexual dogma of the enlightened West build churches and preach conservative values in... FRANCE! Reading the article one can almost sense the editorial board on the verge of a collective stroke.

All of which said I will concede one point. I do wish the Church was not so cozy with the Kremlin. The doctrine and moral teachings of the Orthodox Church don't come from the state. But there has been a long and problematic history of excessively close relations in Russia, especially during the czarist period. The state is never the Church's friend. You would think the savage persecution by the Communists who killed around 10 million Orthodox Christians, would have demonstrated this.

This is why our Western elites see it imperative to take out Putin and Russia as soon as possible. Russia needs to be made safe for aggressive Progressivism, which means making it weak and divided.

IMHO - The 2014 events in Ukraine, war games on Russia’s Baltic borders, Syria - all can be seen in this context.

Not a lot of trust of those politicos? I can't day that I blame them.

t"...hose who pine for a more secure, illiberal world free from the tradition-crushing rush of globalization, multiculturalism and women’s and gay rights..."

Oh, baby, guilty as charged.

Yeah. Did this article mention that this "traditon-crushing rush" is also soul-crushing, family-crushing, nation-crushing and civilization-crushing?

I'm conservative enough to side with civilization.

Maybe we will be glad to have Putin as a friend when he hooks up with the Orthodox Church as China asserts more muscle. Interesting concept Individual rights vs Family rights.

The New York Times has little if any moral compass. They generally reflect a mindless gravitation towards the abandonment of cultural values, hammered out on the anvil of a thousand or more years of actual experience, to favor the fancy and cloud-borne wish lists of the undisciplined Leftwing theorists.

I doubt if any Conservative will lose any sleep over the disparagement of traditional values in such a low-standard publication.

Did we expect anything less from the NY Slimes than to carry Hillary’s anti-Russia and anti-Christian water?
