God does indeed change the heart if any sinner believes on Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Good works are fruitless and ultimate vanity, as is all religions of the world, only faith in the Good Work of God by Jesus Christ, He who was with sin and willingly gave Himself for Sinners, can save a man. It is not church going or countless denomination prayers, but rather faith alone by grace alone in Jesus Christ alone that can and does save a man from death and hell.
Joh 10:24-26 So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep.
Php_1:29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake,
But don't underestimate going to church. This is a command by God that we do not forsake the assembly of others. It is to our benefit that God gives these commands.
