Most Americans see the Statue of Liberty as a symbol of freedom, Clinton said; but “Donald looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a ‘4’. Maybe a ‘5’ if she loses the torch and tablet and changes her hair.”

Nice joke actually. What is odd is that it applies more to her husband than Trump.

Father Jonathan Morris was just on with Varney on FBN. Fr. Morris said that Trump’s comments were inappropriate at the event, it was supposed to be a “light hearted” occasion and Trump disregarded that. Varney replies Hillary’s comments were cutting also. Morris says it’s a race to the bottom. Varney says don’t Catholics realize that the Clinton campaign has insulted them and Cardinal Dolan was waiting for an apology. Morris replies that the Al Smith dinner was not the place. Varney asks how can Catholics support her. Morris says it’s New York and it’s Democratic.

Don’t talk about appropriateness.
What is not appropriate is Cardinal Dolan yucking it up with Clinton.
What is not appropriate is Clinton favoring infanticide and Catholics cheering her.
What is not appropriate is Donald Trump praising the “culture of life” and greeted only with a smattering of applause at a “Catholic” event.
Trump showed that he is for the truth. The pretend Catholics there were exposed for who they are.

Talk the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.

I rather suspect that this will be the LAST Al Smith Dinner.
At least with top politicians in attendance.

I don’t think the Church wants to ride this wave to the next level.

It’s surreal to have this beyotch in the joke marriage like her’s with a husband with so much womanizing moralizing on Trump.

Catholic Spring? Well, we know the Progs tried their Arab Spring. How’d that work out?

I've always thought it showed the phoniness of politicians when they went to these kinds of events and acted all chummy with each other. Another one is the Correspondents dinner.

It's as if the elite and powerful were thumbing their noses at the "lowly" citizens, who aren't invited to such lofty occasions.

Trump's performance shows his integrity. Good job!

Fox Business (except maybe for Cavuto) is the last refuge for pro-Trump support on cable now that Fox News has gone for Hillary. Of those on FBN Stuart Varney and Lou Dobbs are the best. Charles Payne is good to.

It was pretty obvious that he was playing for a different audience, the little guy watching from home. Dolan asked for an apology from Hillary, got nothing, and didn’t mention it again.

Trump was BRILLIANT

Thank you for saying this and I agree wholeheartedly.

There is a bit of a divide in my house between me and hubby.

He supports Trump but wishes he would not be so rude or borish.

I don’t agree. Everytime he speaks I agree. Wholeheartedly.

So, what are YOUR thoughts about this?

Because it breached the unspoken but time honored rules of the Al Smith Dinner, the performance was cringe worthy.

When a gaffe confirms a narrative, it is potentially much more damaging.

Trump has been at the Al Smith Dinner as a guest in the past. He has made some impressive donations to Catholic Charities assisting the Archdiocese in providing corporal works of mercy. He was well aware that this night is about the absence of political combat. A time to, however briefly, come together in humor, fellowship, and commom cause. Even Barky kept his inner snark on a short leash. Donald Trump treated this night no different than his rallies. But what is acceptable and entertaining at those events was not appropriate in last evening’s setting.

And what the traitorous bastards in that room want to do to this country is unacceptable anywhere and at any time. I am unmoved by anyone's 'shocked' sensibilities on this matter of Trump's comments.

I don't want Trump to play patty-cake with them at their debonaire, ivory tower get togethers. I want them quaking in abject FEAR that he will expose their criminality and see them punished for it.

Ed Rollins (former Reagan advisor) was just on Varney and having attended the dinner said pretty much the same thing. The upshot was that the commenters say that Trump treated this as just another rally which he shouldn't have.
(Not agreeing or disagreeing - just reporting)

I will also add this: bravo on Trump for honoring God in his comments.

God cannot be mocked, and He will bless those who stand with Him in the face of all opposition.

Yes...we have been tuning into Fox Biz on our XM lately. Got rid of cable last year.

Morris says it’s New York and it’s Democratic.

IOW, their politics are more important than God. I imagine that God has not failed to take note of this.
