The article gives 700 KM as the RADIUS of the sphere of water.

My "Dashboard Converter Widget" gives

1400 KM = 869.91967 Miles (rounds to 870 Miles)

for the DIAMETER of the sphere.

'Pears to me that your 'guesstimate' of 800 miles for the span of Texas is pretty close to the mark!

Google Earth's "Ruler-Line" tool gives the straight-line span of Texas from Toledo Bend on the Sabine River to El Paso to be 775 Miles. Taking into account surface curvature, your "some 800 miles across" is pretty dang close!

Twas a lucky guess. Thanks for doing a reality check.

Given that the earths oceanic crust is only 6 miles thick, and given that the deepest place in the ocean is a narrow trench 60 miles deep, it seems reasonable a depth of 800 miles for a ball of water could hold the earths oceans. The average depth of the ocean is about 2 miles.

Here is a possible answer to your questions. The animals on the ark were probably babies. Why bring 600 pounds of lions (400lb male and 200lb female) when you could just bring a couple of 10lb cubs? Easier to feed, less space taken up, and longer breeding lives after the flood. The bible also says he took two of each “kind”, so no need for other kinds of “cats” like tigers, panthers, cheetahs and the like.

He took 7 pair of clean animals and 1 pair of unclean animals, and 7 pairs of every kind of bird.
Nothing said about Insects. I guess they survived clinging to all the floating debris.
