The Healing In The Word
02-11-17 | Frank Broom

If you are suffering from some sickness in your body I want to encourage you that there is healing. I want to look at a scripture that I have had personal experiences with. Proverbs 4:20-23 says, My son attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. That word health is translated medicine, remedy, healing, cure.

The word is healing so it’s not something that you have to wait for God to do, but something that you receive by following his instructions. Think about it, just like in the natural when you have a cold or a headache you go to the store and buy some aspirin or some cold medicine, you take it with the understanding that if you take it as directed the ingredients in it is designed to take care of your problem. And I’m telling you the word of God is designed to deal with any sickness. For Romans 1:16 says, the word of God is the power of God unto salvation. Do not limit that word salvation, in the Greek it is translated-healing, deliverance, preservation, wholeness. What sickness can resist the power of God. Understand what God is saying, in Luke 8:11 in the parable of the sower it says, “The seed is the word of God.” So, the word of God is seed and that’s how you have to treat it. The first time you hear the word that’s sowing and all other times you hear the word is watering.

In 1Corinthians 3:6 it says, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” So, God increases the seed that’s sown and watered. When a seed is sown and watered it releases what’s in it. The seed of the word releases the power of God that’s in it when it is sown and watered. In Acts 14:8-10 there is an instance of a man that was impotent in his feet that sat listening to Paul preach and when Paul perceived he had faith to be healed, he said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on thy feet” and the man leaped and walked. This man got healed just listening to the word. Well, if he could then you can now. Nobody prayed for him. Nobody laid hands on him. Nobody called on the name of Jesus for him, but it was the word that did it. Keep the word in your eyes, ears, and mouth and it will do the same for you.

A few weeks ago I read an old book titled “Healing” by Francis MacNutt. Excellent work, very inspiring; though I had to overlook a certain amount of social justice woven into it. He took apart all the common arguments and errors about Christian healing, made a powerful case for it.
I think it was written in the ‘70s so if it’s available online it shouldn’t cost much. Recommend it.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto
thine own understanding; in all thy ways acknowledge Him
and He shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own
eyes; fear the Lord & depart from evil. It shall be HEALTH
unto thy navel and marrow unto thy bones.”

Uh...the sickness that leads to natural death? It isn't so much that death "can resist" the power of God - because God has power over everything - but we ALL will eventually die in these unglorified bodies (unless the Rapture happens first).

Do you accept that sometimes physical healing of infirmities is NOT in God's plan and that His perfect will sometimes is that we endure suffering so that HE is glorified THROUGH it? I KNOW spiritual healing is part of the atonement but that does not translate to physical healing all the time. Eventually, our corrupt bodies will get sick unto death but one day we will be given incorruptible, glorified bodies with which we will spend eternity with our Lord God and Savior and we will never be sick or die again. I can endure all things through Christ who strengthens me. His grace is sufficient for me because when I am weak, then he is strong.

But, but, but, dontcha know, bb, that God’s a sugar daddy up their in heaven dispensing blessings on people on demand?

And it’s your *right* as a child of His to name it and claim it?

And that if you don’t get it the way some people think you should, it’s not GOD’S fault?

It’s YOURS!

You don’t have enough faith.

You aren’t believing God.

You have sin in your life you need to repent of.

You have generational curses you have to ferret out.

You really want to be sick.

If you’d just do the right thing, follow the right procedure, viola, it’s yours, like sticking a nickel in the candy machine and turning the knob and out pops candy.

Any and every excuse for why you aren’t healed except acknowledging that their theology is unscriptural.

God not heal Paul of his ailment, whatever it was. Can God heal our physical sicknesses? Yes. Does He always heal our sicknesses? No.
On the other hand, with some of our problems, God can use people to do it. Such as, if you have a toothache, God can can have you dial 1-800 D E N T I S T. Cataracts can be healed through surgery.

This thread seems to pop up every now and then.

I have heard messages from two different preachers, totally unrelated to each other, on the role of suffering in our lives.

The one was this morning online at The Father’s House.

http://tfhny.org/watch/

Go to the message archive. Today’s is not up yet but he’s doing a series on the Beatitudes and today’s message was on suffering.

I was at a customer's one evening last week. (Personal customer, side job.) Trying to get his computer squared away. I knew he was a pastor of some sort. Well, on the big screen there were two tag teaming televangelists, pitching for the donations. I'm sitting there waiting through a long chkdsk on boot, and he's telling me to pray, decree and declare against metastatic prostate cancer.

"That's now how this works. That's not how any of this works!"

He ended up giving me a Rob Parlsey book. If and when I see him again, if he brings it up, so he knows where I'm coming from, I'll give him a copy of the Heidelberg Catechism.

27. Q. What do you understand by the providence of God?

A. God's providence is His almighty and ever present power, whereby, as with His hand, He still upholds heaven and earth and all creatures, and so governs them that leaf and blade, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, food and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, indeed, all things, come not by chance but by His fatherly hand.[5]

I've not kept a record; but I'd guess that more of my prayers have been unanswered (the way I want them to be) than have been answered.

Guess what...

...I still keep praying!

Just ran into this: Why the prosperity gospel did not exist in the early church.
