The Secretary General for the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), Reverend Father Henry Saindi has expressed the need for responsible parenthood and proper guidance especially to the youths as a way of controlling population which is fast growing at an alarming rate.

Fr. Saindi was speaking Catholic Secretariat in Lilongwe when he opened a two-day advocacy workshop for Diocesan Social Communication Secretaries and Youth Chaplains on responsible parenthood and procreation.

He said the Catholic Church is equally concerned with the way the population is growing hence joins the rest of stakeholders including government in ensuring that the country's population is manageable for the growth of socio-economic development.

Most Catholic centered 3rd world countries have the opposite problem, not enough babies being born. This being on the African continent, I can believe that extreme poverty is a widespread problem. So reminding people of the responsibilities and duties that come with parenthood is a good thing, regardless of income status.

Jesus was born in poverty.

And he was a homeless refugee whose mother became pregnant out of wedlock.

Or so I'm told by the liberals.

Yes, Jesus was born in poverty. He also had two parents who worked together to provide for him. They also protected him from that King who was looking to slay every infant male in the lands. Responsible, proactive parenting.

I thought St. Joseph provided for both the Blessed Mother and his foster Son.

Are you claiming a two-income family?

I consider taking care of a newborn day in, day out, to be ‘work’ too. All the feeding, changings and washings. My mother made sure I knew just how much she had ‘worked’ for me and my siblings at that age. “Not that I was paid anything, mind you!”

Yes, it's the old line. When a human baby is born, GDP per capita goes down. When a calf is born, GDP per capita goes up. There's something wrong with that math.

What makes your family different from a Malawi family?

Are you better than them?

Even if a mother stays at home, she is working and providing for her family, with care and instruction, no paycheck but much work and providing.

I’m done discussing this with you. You seem determined to look for things to argue about. Good luck to you.
