Dublin Archbishop Denounces Church for ‘Harshness’ Towards Gays

Abp. Diarmuid Martin made his critical remarks during Holy Week homily

DUBLIN (ChurchMilitant.com) - In his Holy Week and Easter Sunday homilies, Ireland's head archbishop, Diarmuid Martin, called Catholicism a "religion of fear" and a "faith of prohibitions," denouncing the Church for its historic "harshness" towards the LGBT community.

In his speech at the Good Friday Way of the Cross in Dublin, he remarked, "How is it that the Church and its institutions could at various times in history, and not only in a distant past , have been so judgmental and treated broken people who were entrusted to its care with such harshness?"

"How could we have tried to use the teaching and the merciful way of dealing with sinners to justify or accept harsh exclusion?" he continued. "Think of so many groupings who were misjudged: single mothers who wanted to keep a baby they loved, gay and lesbian people, orphans."

He went on, "We can be so judgmental and hurtful towards those whom we decide have failed and those who drift outside our self-made ideas of respectability."

And in his Easter Sunday homily, Martin criticized the Catholic Church: "We had created a religion of fear, so much that even when we tried to live the good life, we were never left with a sensation of being free."

"For many, Christianity had been turned into a faith of prohibitions," he continued. "Certain theologies spoke about freeing people from sin but had developed a concept of sin and sinner which made it almost impossible for a sinner ever to feel himself or herself truly liberated."

If he is worried about homosexuals, shouldn’t he focus on the Muslims?

The catholic church is, at best, indifferent to gays. it is never harsh in all the years I've attended. The only people who think the church is harsh towards gays are gays.

So we've just learned something about this bishop.

What about alcoholism? Or those laundry joints your church ran in the last century? Why not look at who's responsible for that instead of scorching priests for obeying your church's teachings on sodomy?

I am sickened that even in Ireland, the last bastion of Catholic faith the sodomites are given special treatment EVEN BY THE CHURCH!!

>self-made ideas of respectability

That, itself, says more than most humans can comprehend.

Logic escapes most people and is to the right of the median on the bell curve that most have no clue about.

The Dems were sending e-mails abut infiltrating the church to push their social , homo agenda, according to the wikleaks, and we see yet another example of it.

On Good Friday, of all days, "Less of Him and more of homos".

It’s the “compassionate” liberals who are harsh toward gays. Leading people astray is far more cruel than being truthful. The Bible says what it means and means what it says. There is no honest way to sugarcoat the biblical stance on homosexual acts, and to respond with anything short of God’s truth is the harshest imaginable response toward any form of sin (including those many wrong paths that tempt me).

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. (Leviticus 20:13)

I guess these two scripture comments are hard to understand with these “religious” people.

” single mothers who wanted to keep a baby they loved”

Homosexuality isn't the only destructive behavior. Keeping a child from having a family is abuse.

This Bishop doesn't understand why or doesn't want to understand why licentious behavior is wrong.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

Why doesn’t this ‘holy man’ also defend and glorify pedophiles, necrophiles and zoophiles.

What is so damned special about homosexual behavior that requires we overlook their sinful and destructive lifestyle?

What compels these sanctimonious priest to excuse such degenerates in a church sermon?

Could money have something to do with it? Or is this charlatan a sodomite himself?

>self-made ideas of respectability

It is neither self-made nor about respectability. It is about obeying God's law, and something we are all called to do. No exceptions for self-proclaimed victim classes.

Well I am more than willing to follow the best path to humanhood.

Now, I am in contact with God 24*7 so there is no communication fault there.

What channel of your God can I tune in to to see what you are trying to tell me?

I always guess that people who reason like this are homosexuals. They are approval seekers who often try to reclassify their behavior. In this case by saying it’s not a behavior so much as a state of being.

This archbishop will learn the meaning of fear when he has to account for his false teaching to Christ.

Beyond sad. Obvious that homosexuals have wormed their way into Church leadership positions. Yet the faithful believe that the righteous holy will ultimately triumph over the politically decadent. This too shall pass.

Yes, he does understand. He is a Marxist Catholic. In other words, a faux Catholic (CINO) who doen’t believe in the Commandments of God, nor the Bible, nor Science (Natural Law). He thinks mortal sin is “Good” when it is all a manifestation of child abuse and using others in diabolical, evil ways. He is actually promoting child abuse and child corruption.

Such evil people, like him, need to keep their mouths shut, so as not to corrupt the innocent. And he needs to quit the Church or go to confession and reread the Bible.
