I like to think of Christ’s presence during this time as I did when I was learning it.. while I was taking piano lessons as a kid.

I had a great piano teacher, but at some point (after a few years) I had to leave and move on. I went on to perfect the things I had learned and experiment with different styles and recognize challenges with the eye of an experienced and wiser player.

My instructor didn’t disappear. 2 or 3 times I would meet with him again and compare notes, play some piano and say thanks.

Christ didn’t feel that I should know his whereabouts at all times. I’m OK with that.

I hope I remember to ask him.

I just finished writing a novel in which a man has a lengthy conversation with a ghost, who fills him in, to the best of her knowledge, on some of the workings of the other world. But when he tries to pump her for specific knowledge pertaining to some minor religious quibble she tells him, laughingly, “I’m not a theologian, I’m a ghost.”

In John 20:17, Jesus uses the present active, 1st person singular anabainO, "I am ascending" and that's apparently His reason to say to Mary that she should stop clinging to Him. As He was ascending, it seems it was a problematic time to be among those that had not yet been resurrected/given new, heavenly bodies (See II Cor 13:35-49).

Secondly, Jesus had a ministry to those in prison, as is noted in 1 Peter 3:19, He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, almost certainly during the time before he was fully ascended to the Father.

He was busy where He could do the most Good.

Jesus gave them all they needed to trust and have faith to believe just like he does us.

Only God knows. We are not blessed with the capacity. Everything we think is conjecture, not fact. Ever heard the phrase, the Lord works in strange ways?

He purpose is to fulfill the former and later rain. G-d teaches through judaism of 7 festivals will be fulfilled at their appointed times. Messiah superimposed his 1st coming events on top of passover, hag hamatza, first fruits and shavot. After counting the omer he appeared at (penticost) which was 1st established on top of mt. sini. and establishing a covenent with Israel or “believer” in Hashem. This stuff is pretty basic into info. The next time you see him he will be superimposing the later rain events (appointed times)
Rosh ha shanna, yom kippor and sukkot, and after 1335 days Hanukkah. shalom

Msgr. Pope has a very fertile mind in searching through matters that are useful to consider. This meditation is excellent, to prompt the Bible student to contemplate the forty days of Jesus' post-Resurrection encouragement and instruction of the disciples. It was in this period that the remaining members of his chosen inner circle were ordained as Apostles.

And within this scope, I believe it is a matter for pondering when Jesus invited Peter (who had "gone a-fishing"; Jn. 21:3), back from his fall into denial (Mt. 10:31-33, Mt. 26:75, Lk. 22:62), to restore him to his first estate as one of the followers that He could rely on to feed and tend His sheep and lambs as an under-shepherd (Jn. 21:15-17): "Feed My lambs"; "Tend My sheep"; "Feed my sheep."

Thus, accepting this ordained employment, it seems that he would be counted on to fulfill the charge to strengthen the other of the brethren, and not be set aside as a hireling (Jn. 10:12), but as one in having a stake with them in the forming of the earthly ministry of the Gospel (Mt. 28:18-20, Mk. 16:15, Lk. 24:47), the Word of Christ, and the salvation of souls from a dying world.
