Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Ark of the Covenant, The Tabernacle, and The Temple

Exodus 28

Other Priestly Garments

31 “Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth, 32 with an opening for the head in its center. There shall be a woven edge like a collar[c] around this opening, so that it will not tear. 33 Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them. 34 The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe. 35 Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he will not die.

36 “Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: holy to the Lord. 37 Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban. 38 It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron’s forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the Lord.

39 “Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer. 40 Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons to give them dignity and honor. 41 After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.

42 “Make linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh. 43 Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die. “This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Blessed and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
How Magnificent,
How Holy,
How Sanctified and Glorious!
When I Awake in the Morning,
You Are There.
All through the day,
You Are With me.
And When I go to Sleep at Night,
You Are Still Watching Over Us All.
For You Neither Slumber Nor Sleep.

Father, Those Who Hate Your people without a cause,
Gather Together to force them to hand over to usurpers
what YOU have given them.
We Plead with You, that You will Give Favor To Your People,
And make the lies of the enemy so obvious,
That all will know,
From East To West, and North to South,
That YOU, YHVH, are LORD over ALL!

We Pray For the Leaders of Our Own Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
to do the Right Thing.

We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(This Picture contains some both Hebraic and Christian Interpretation of the Garments)

This Chapter in Exodus rounds out and finishes the instructions for the Garments of the High Priest with the addition of the Turban, the Gold Forehead plate, the robe that goes under the Ephod and Breastplate, the Tunic that goes under the robe, and the undergarments that go under the tunic. The details given here are wonderful, especially from the viewpoint of someone who likes to sew! When making a collar, it is important to cut the pieces in the BIAS, or Slant of the weave. This keeps the opening from stretching out of shape. It is also recommended that you line both pieces of the collar with something called interfacing, which is a stiff cheesecloth or muslin fabric with an opposite grain, loosely stitched into the collar. Nowadays there is iron-on interfacing that makes life a little easier. It saves steps but can sometimes lose its shape with many washings. The Pattern for Aaron's robe is quite specific about reinforcing the collar so it won't ravel or lose its shape. When we read tomorrow what Aaron will be DOING while wearing this garment, we will see why it will have to be able to sustain a LOT of washing. Also, Aaron will be expected to hand down these garments to his sons and grandsons as they, in turn, become High Priest.

Another very interesting note is the hem of little bells on the bottom of the robe. Since nobody could go into the Holy of Holies EXCEPT the High Priest, and he only on Yom Kippur, these little bells served a very important purpose. In the 1st Chapter of the Gospel of Luke, we have an interesting dilemma. Here is the story as presented in the Gospel:

The Birth of John the Baptist Foretold

5 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. 6 Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. 7 But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.

8 Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, 9 he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. 10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. 14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. 16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”

19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. 20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple. 22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

23 When his time of service was completed, he returned home. 24 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion. 25 “The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”

Now, in this instance, Zechariah was NOT a High Priest in the Holy of Holies, but just a regular priest at the Altar of Incense inside the temple but not behind the Great Veil that separated the rest of the Temple from the Holy of Holies. Nevertheless, when he didn't come back out right away, and couldn't call out either (he had been struck dumb!) the people became worried about him. Even so, they did not dare barge in to find out what was happening either.

This Passage in Exodus has sparked speculation that the High Priest had a rope tied around his ankle as he went into the Holy of Holies to perform his Yom Kippur duties. As long as the priests on the outside of the veil could hear the little bells jingling, they knew that the High Priest was moving around and was alive. However...if the bells stopped...it was to be assumed that the High Priest had greatly offended God and was dead. Since nobody could go in after him, they would have to pull him out with the rope.

Although this may seem strange to our modern standards, it emphasizes the untouchable, unreachable, indescribable HOLINESS of God. As we will learn in the Books of Judges and Samuel, even touching the Ark could result in instant death. While the qualities of Grace, Love, Goodness, Kindness, and Forgiveness are also very much a part of Our God's Character, we must never forget His Holiness, Purity, and Justice. Only in the Being so much beyond ourselves and our own understanding can such attributes exist in perfect harmony.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

God Bless America!

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Amen.

Father, Your Word says to pray for the peace of Jerusalem because those that love Jerusalem shall prosper. Lord Jesus, because You love Jerusalem and wept over it, I love it also. I pray for Jerusalem to receive the Shalom of God, which brings wholeness—nothing missing, nothing broken. I pray that no leader of our nation will make any decision that will harm Jerusalem in any way. And in the Name of Jesus, I pray that You reveal Your perfect will to all the leaders of Israel. I ask You, Lord, to reveal Yourself to each person. (From K. Copeland website)

From 2011. I like to reread this every now and then. There's just something about the little bell. Maybe it's in seeing that if this tiniest ornamental detail could be discovered after so many years, there's hope for all the lost "buttons" and "beads" out there.

Archaeologists Discover High Priest's Bell?

Archaeologists have discovered a rare gold bell during an excavation in the City of David National Park in Jerusalem.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

- ND thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent.

And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about:
A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about.

And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not.

And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.

And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD.

And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.

And for Aaron's sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and bonnets shalt thou make for them, for glory and for beauty.

And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office.

And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:

And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.
