The California Catholic Conference has announced its strong opposition to AB 569, a bill that forbids employers from firing or taking other adverse action against employees who have abortions.
The bill targets religious employers who expect faithful public and workplace conduct by their employees, including those who teach at religious schools and are reasonably expected to model the principles of that faith, the conference said in an action alert.
The state assembly has passed the bill in a 54-17 vote. The legislation awaits a vote in the state senate.

A clear and obvious violation of the First Amendment.
What’s next? Jews?
The obvious answer is to outlaw contraception. That will reduce dealing with conception unwanted. Eh?

Saying something is one thing, what, exactly could they possibly “do” about it? There is no “Church law” any more than there is the stinking “sharia law.”

Fortunately, I shut down my business before it reached this point. If I had been compelled to pay for abortion as part of mandated insurance and then one of my employees had an abortion using coverage that I paid for, that employee would have been fired. I would never have fired them for that reason, not officially. I just would have fired them over performance, or because I was eliminating their position, or because of their interactions with a client.
Freedom includes freedom of association - “the right of the people peaceably to assemble”. That includes the right not choose to associate (or assemble) with specific people.
