Fear and self serving is not prudence.
PERHAPS not signing it so as to stay in a position where one may have more power to influence change would make sense, but it is a slippery slope, clinging to power for a “virtuous” reason.
St. John Fisher has done more by his martyrdom than he could have ever done by testing the "slippery slope".
