Moscow, September 28, Interfax - The living conditions for Christians in Syria are improving as its territory is being liberated, Dmitry Sablin, coordinator of the State Duma group on parliamentary liasion with Syria, said.
"The situation in Syria is definitely improving. Eighty-five percent of the territory of Syria has now been liberated, and the situation with Christians is different," Sablin said at a meeting of the State Duma inter-faction meeting on the protection of Christian values.
Sablin said he had just returned from a visit to Syria, where he visited places where Christians live in compact communities in the city of Homs.
"The Syrian authorities are doing everything to protect Christians," he said.
For Alawite Assad it makes sense to protect Christians- and other minority ethnicities and religions. The Akawites are officially regarded as a Shiite offshoot but it is questionable whether they are even Moslem. Iran accepts the Alawites as Shia because Iran needs Assad as an ally. A Sunni rebel victory in Syria would be disastrous for the Yezidis, the Kurds, Sufis, Druzes, and Shiites in Syria as well as for the Alawites and would cut off Iran’s free use of the area to transmit troops and supplies to its puppets and agents in Palestine and Jordan. Assad’s support is those minority groups. The Obama crusade (lunade?) to kill Assad was an attempt to purify Syria and purge these heretical and infidel minorities. It is what he would have liked to do to America.
Once again, the Russians show how they will stand up for Christians even though the western powers (think Obama) didn’t and don’t want to.
It’s little things like this that add up over time. The Russians have wanted to be the center of Christendom for over 560 years.
There are a lot of Orthodox Christians in the East who really notice stuff like this. I wonder if Christians in the West will start to take notice some time.
Assad is a ruthless dictator. All others in the Middle East are dictators (Israel excepted) and only differ in their degrees of ruthlessness.
Prior to the war in Syria instigated by mostly outside forces, a Christian, a Jew or a Muslim could walk the streets in safety and pray at their own church, mosque or synagod in safety. All three also lived in the same communities and engaged in business and commerce together.
It should also be noted that the Christians in Syria are fighting in Assad’s Syrian Army for Assad. There are even some Christian Generals in the Syrian Army, including its Chief of Staff.
As mentioned, Assad is not a good guy but his enemies are far worse. Why are we fighting him?
Assad is not a good guy but there is no set of circumstances short of the Christians in the whole area cobbling together some sort of Christian State that could be run in any way by a brutal dictator. It makes no sense at all for America to kill off the few Assads and Kadafis in the Islamic world. They can only be replaced by Moslem purists to become Jihad States.
Assad is ‘par for the course’ in that part of the world.
