“Reject Populist Slogans and Those Shouts Aimed at the Stomach” [Pope Francis]
La Stampa-Vatican Insider ^ | 10/2/17 | Andrea Tornielli

The Pope addresses the Bologna University students and speaks of the “right to culture, hope and peace”, “We need words that reach the minds and hearts”. His appeal against war, “We are not neutral, but stand for peace!”

We have “the right not to be invaded on a daily basis by the rhetoric of fear and hatred”, the right “not to be overwhelmed by populist slogans or by the disturbing and profitable spread of fake news”. Francis pointed out during his meeting with students and the academic world of Bologna, in Piazza San Domenico, during which he renewed his appeal to take distance from the “reasons of war” and not to be “neutral, but stand for peace”.

Arriving late from St. Peter’s Cathedral, where he had just met priests and religious men and women, the Pope entered the basilica and paused for a few moments in prayer in the chapel before the reliquary of St. Dominic. Then he went out onto the square where he was greeted by a student and the rector of the University of Bologna, Francesco Ubertini, who gave him the “Sigillum Magnum”, the University’s highest honor.

He reminded those first students and the “two driving ideals”. A “vertical “ one, because you can’t really live without elevating the soul to knowledge, without the desire to aim upwards. And the other “horizontal“, because research must be done together, by stimulating and sharing good common interests. This is the distinctive universal character of the university, which is never afraid to include”. Francis then shared his hopes that “Bologna, a centuries-old crossroads of meetings, confrontation and relationship, and in recent......

We have the right not to be invaded on a daily basis by barbarians posing as ‘migrants’ and ‘refugees’.

Maybe it’s the translation, but those perorations sound like North Korean propaganda posters to me.

“We have “the right not to be invaded on a daily basis”

Well, I was with him until halfway through the first sentence. After that, all I can say is the University of Bologna is a fitting venue for this speech.

"the right to culture"

Does he regard the products of contemporary popular culture - rap, trashy TV, trashy movies, Madonna - as representative of the "culture" he is talking about?

Francis has never made much sense, but I think he’s getting worse. Plus, he can never seem to shut up, and the press gleefully reports every word of his confused, leftist ravings.

How about the right not to have one’s body invaded by the dirty, unwashed, diseased penis of a middle eastern man?

“...we have the right not to be invaded...”, that much he got right. Looks like he’s taking a break from defending abortion and sodomy.

This guy is just like Obama and the left in general. He accuses his opponents of doing all the things he himself is actually doing.
