Reading comprehension.
That light took 8 minutes to get from sun to us.
It likely took 100,000 years to get _out_ of the sun.

Agree, but...the photons that comprise the sunlight take about 50,000 years to escape the sun, and then travel those 8 minutes.

Read the article. It can be much older since the light was generated many years ago only to escape the sun and travel to Earth.
