It's as simple as the promises for blessings to "Ephraim and Manasseh" (read Gen 48) and

"... he also shall become a people,
and he also shall be GREAT:
but truly his younger brother [Ephraim] shall be greater than he,
and his seed shall become a MULTITUDE of NATIONS"

Jeremiah 3, Jeremiah 31, Jeremiah 39, and Jeremiah 41 give you more clues, and it is "Jeremiah's strange Commission" that you should be on the trail of.
Read Ezekiel 17 for that commission, and don't let the reference to "a great eagle with great wings" go un-noticed.
Isaiah 37:31-32 will also help.
Isaiah 49 even tells you which direction they travelled.
Research the stone called "lia-fail."
Go back and read Gen. 35:11 again ... about "a nation AND a company of nations shall be of thee".
