The discalced Carmelites were the order of St Theresa of Avalon. And John of the Cross. In their day they were very controversial and opposed by the (no surprise) Jesuits.

Saint Teresa of Avila...a beautiful mystic...very misunderstood. In my youth, I wanted to be a Carmelite...but God had other plans...he sent into my life a persistent young man, whom I married...and we have given to the world...8 children, 17 grandchildren...11greatgrandchildren...and a partridge in a pear tree! 😇
