Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Meditating Upon The Names and Attributes of God



"Ruler"

(Old Testament)

Micah 5:2

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,     though you are small among the clans[a] of Judah,
out of you will come for me
    one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
    from ancient times.”

(End of Scripture Passage)







"Ruler"

In This Passage, which was quoted by Herod's Scholars to the Wise Men, The Prophet Micah Reveals the Birthplace and Tribe of the Messiah. He Also says that The Messiah would be the "Ruler of Israel", that is, a KING. In a jealous rage, Herod decreed that all the new baby boys up to the age of 2 years be slaughtered in Bethlehem.To this day, the People of Bethlehem remember those Innocents, and there is a cave right near the Church of the Nativity that is dedicated to their Memory as their final resting place.

Legend has it that St. Jerome sat in that cave and translated the Entire Bible from Hebrew and Greek into the Latin "Vulgate", or the Common Language of the day. Having been inside that very cave, I can tell you that I do not doubt either story.

We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

My very talented nephew wanted to learn a Classic Rock Song on Guitar that had many, many chords, up the neck of the guitar. The song had been written in E minor, but the lead singer of the Eagles said it was too high to sing (it would have been easy in E minor to play though!). So the song was transposed to B minor, to accommodate the singer's voice. This made the 10 chords in the song much harder to play, necessitating what we call "Barre Chords", which contort the hand, and are difficult for a beginning guitarist. I drew the chords on a piece of paper, carefully drawing the strings and frets free-hand so that Josh could visualize the chords...and remember, there were ten of them.

The following week, Josh gave me a little present...a RULER!

As free as we are in Christ, He is our Ruler. He sets the Standard, and we walk humbly before Him. When we try to do it under our own power, the lines are not straight, and confusion results.

A little pun, I know, but it makes sense! It was THIS Prophecy in Micah that led the Magi to the Christ Child. Even though Micah was considered one of the "Minor Prophets", this was a MAJOR Prophecy!

[Ezekiel]

It's a rich verse. The word for ruler is a good pun, as it also permutes to shalom, and also his parable, as appears in a related Messianic prophecy:

Num 24

15. And he took up his parable, and said, The speech of Balaam, the son Beor, and the speech of a man whose eyes are open:
16. The speech of one who heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, who saw the vision of the Almighty falling down, but having his eyes open:
