U.S. Episcopal Diocese Votes to Stop Using Masculine Pronouns for God

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 1, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – The Episcopal church in the Diocese of Washington, D.C., passed a resolution last week to stop using masculine pronouns for God in future updates to its Book of Common Prayer.

The resolution to stop using "gendered language for God" was passed quickly by delegates to the Diocese's 123rd Convention.

“If revision of the Book of Common Prayer is authorized, to utilize expansive language for God from the rich sources of feminine, masculine, and non-binary imagery for God found in Scripture and tradition and, when possible, to avoid the use of gendered pronouns for God,” the resolution stated.

“Over the centuries our language and our understanding of God has continued to change and adapt,” the drafters of the resolution stated. The drafters said that referring to God using masculine pronouns is to "limit our understanding of God."

"By expanding our language for God, we will expand our image of God and the nature of God," they stated.

But Clergy delegate The Rev. Linda R. Calkins from St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Laytonsville, Maryland, challenged the delegates to go further.

Calkins read from Genesis Chapter 17, in which God tells Abraham “I am El Shaddai.” She said that if Episcopalians "are going to be true to what El Shaddai means, it means God with breasts.”

“Having studied much feminist theology in my masters’ degrees, I wrote a thesis on liberation and freedom and non-equality in feminist theology and existential counseling,” Calkins told the delegates, as reported by The Institute On Religion & Democracy.

“And I am still waiting for the Episcopal Church to come to the place where all people feel that they can speak God’s name. Many, many women that I have spoken with over my past almost 20 years in ordained ministry......

I recall them trying to push this “God is our Father and Mother” stuff in the Catholic Church, late 1960s-early 1970s, but I don’t think it took hold.

How did Henry VIII alter the Lord’s Prayer?

I never had a problem with a Christian conception of the Holy Spirit as feminine. But God the Father gives a firmer impression as creator, law giver, provider, enforcer, etc.

This is all figurative however, as God cannot - except through the Son - be visualized.

Though I’m Noachide, and view God as One.

Not all churches or denominations actually serve God, some are forms of liberal insanity run amuck! We call them ‘dead ‘, no Holy Spirit presence can be found! They continue to use God’s name, however, his Word, his Commandments, his anointing is missing!

God is a HE, in Genesis Chapter 1:27 ‘God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created HIM; male and female he created them! NIV

Our soul is made up of our ‘mind, will, and emotions’, that is in God’s image. WE think, we have purpose to do, and we feel, that is what/who we are. That is what is changed when we accept Christ ‘the mind that is in Christ Jesus is in us’. We will to serve God, and we feel his presence, when we are changed into Christians by our decision.

GOD will never be a she, for he made MAN in his image...he made woman to be a helpmate to man. That does not mean she can’t accomplish much on her own, however, as women we accomplish so much more when using our talents as given by God.

“Shim?’ How funny!

I was told that TEC survives on remittances from old people and gifts from their wills, and not tithes.

So when an Episco. church closes it’s really gain for the from office, not a loss.

My oldest goes to a Episcopalian school, but they seem conservative. The headmaster told me there are 4 strains of Episcopalism. One strain, denoted here, is “Fag”.
