You are semantically right. I meant from her perspective (ignore my pronouns as I dont know which gender this child was or whatever and it doesnt matter). If you played chess with this decision the parents made, they may not have chosen the best for the child. Staying close might have helped the child more in the long run.
And I say that having seen a family (lefty wealthy family) transition their 16 year old girl to a boy and now (some years later) back again. Ugh.
