Some may recall the Saturday morning cartoon, "Fractured Fairy Tales", and this is in that spirit:

In I Samuel 28 we find that Samuel has died and King Saul had put the mediums and wizards out of the land, just before the Philistines encamped nearby.

Seeing this Saul became very afraid and inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer.

Saul instructed his servants to seek out a woman who is a medium, that he may inquire of her.

Now they were searching in the city of Endor, where the people were very short in stature.

As the search continued Saul became more frantic and instructed his servants to post signs.

the signs read:

SMALL MEDIUM AT LARGE.......

The witch of endor story reads like an incident or two from the odyssey or some other greek story about an encounter with a witch. I consider it one of the huge practical things that the ancient jews did was to outlaw all forms of witchcraft and divination (I don’t know if astrology was in the mix. Numerology was not.) I think these were lessons learned from the world of the ancient sumerians from which abraham came. But Maybe not.
