Outstanding post - and question. I really do not know how non-believers find peace from the pains of sin - and that pain is eternal without a Sacrifice. God made sure there would be no more temple sacrifices with the destruction of the temple, because He had made had made an eternal Sacrifice in His Son.

Basically they and indeed most of us don't care. People are screwed up, always were always will be. Metaphysical agonizing seems to be just plain nuts for a generally secular world , something out of the Middle Ages.
