Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Because this daily meditation is posted on a conservative website, there are many forums and threads available for getting into politics. For that reason, I try to steer away from political subjects and tell stories from my own experiences and observations that illustrate a spiritual principle and relate to the Scripture Reading of the Day. Sometimes I am successful, sometimes not so much! :-).
Today's Reading has two very important factors that jump right out at me. The first one is:
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
This is revolutionary. Jesus KNOWS that His Disciples are about to be plunged into a scene of absolute horror, fear, and distress unlike any they have experienced. When a group is attacked, the natural response is to strike back, squabble among themselves, seek power over the group, and break up into cliques. We see this kind of craziness going on right now on the political scene on both sides of the aisle. The opposition gets more and more outlandish in their accusations and attacks, and those for whom we voted squabble, equivocate, and refuse to defend the very people who put them in power in the first place.
Which brings us to the second item:
Peter asked, Lord, why cant I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.
Then Jesus answered, Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!"
Jesus sees right through Peter's bluster and challenges him with this harsh prediction. Peter must have thought, "That's Not Fair!", and yet, when the time came for him to stand up for Jesus, he backed down, not once, but THREE TIMES.
We elect people because of their promises to us (I will lay down my life for you!) and we become disappointed when they give into the lies of the enemy. Somebody ought to bring a Rooster into the halls of Congress to wake these guys up!
Just my Humble Opinion.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.. Psalm 33 NASB
