The only thing Poppy was "great" in was belatedly using the veto pen AFTER breaking his No New Taxes pledge.
The appointment of Thomas and sticking with him
Thomas did his own work and shamed the Senate. Bush had very little to do with his confirmation. Did he make any public statements defending him?
Bush I was a globalist who destroyed the Reagan Revolution. Quite possibly the 3rd or 4th worst President of the 20th Century, after Carter, Wilson, and LBJ.
Ridiculous not to credit Bush for sticking by Thomas, he could have pulled the nomination.
Bush had a poor reelection campaign the media ganged up on him, but he lost largely because of Perot.
Bush stood by Gorbachev and Yeltsin against the hardline Russian coup.
Bush also insisted on the reunification of Germany when everyone was saying we’d have to keep the Russians in East Germany.
Bush faced a Democrat Congress his entire presidency, which is why he agreed to $1 in tax increases for every $3 in budget reductions. This resulted in budget surpluses, including in the Clinton years.
The coalition against Iraq was masterful, and people forget how vehemently every step was opposed by the media.
Well said E3. I can’t believe there are FReepers talking good about this SOB Bush. Not to mention his little, ahem, drug bizz, with Billy Boy Clinton out of Mena airport in the 1980’s.
