Washington D.C., Jan 10, 2019 / 05:13 pm (CNA).- An allegation of misconduct against Archbishop Theodore McCarrick was reported to Cardinal Donald Wuerl in 2004, despite Wuerl’s insistence he knew nothing about McCarrick’s alleged sexual misconduct until 2018.

Wuerl forwarded the report to the apostolic nuncio in Washington, DC, the Diocese of Pittsburgh said Thursday. A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Washington confirmed to CNA that an allegation against McCarrick was presented to Wuerl while he served as Bishop of Pittsburgh, as part of a complaint made by laicized priest Robert Ciolek.

In a statement, the Diocese of Pittsburgh said Jan. 10 that laicized priest Robert Ciolek appeared in November 2004 before its diocesan review board to discuss an allegation of abuse Ciolek had made against a Pittsburgh priest.

Looks like Archbishop Vigano is telling the truth about the homodemon wuerl.

Seems yo me that gives him increased credibility regarding the Argentinian wolf.

They are all liars; from Bergoglio on down.

Surprised to see this published at CNA which is the most anodyne, "business as usual" of the main Catholic news outlets.

Wuerl and Francis are big buddies. This turns up the heat on Francis even if it doesn't directly impact him and it comes at just the right time; immediately before his February fake "summit" on abuse.

Yes, but most ordinary people do not pathologically lie, and thus find it hard to imagine that some people do. Thus, proof is required to overcome the natural benefit of the doubt.

Maybe Francis will now place Wuerl’s replacement as Bishop of Washington, D.C. on the front burner.

Tobin? Cupich? Business as usual?

Not that I've made a study of it, but I was under the impression that the CNA(Catholic News Agency) was pretty honest and straightforward. They're with EWTN and their editor-in-chief is author and canon lawyer JD Flynn, a straight-shooting guy in my opinion.

OTOH, the CNS (Catholic News Service) serves as a house organ for the USCCB. Nuff said.

This really doesn’t belong as “Catholic Caucus”, in my opinion. It’s a crime story.

It's not what they publish. It's what they don't publish. There was no rigorous analysis of Amoris laetitia or the Synods on the Family, nothing about the Scalfari conversations and the non-existence of hell, little mention of the outrageous remarks which come out of Casa Santa Marta each day, directed at faithful Catholics, little but cheerleading on the recent Synod on Youth and its documents.

You'll find coverage of most of the Catholic scandals du jour but it goes only as far as Francis' door. That's where it stops. There's little to no mention of any of the troubling aspects of Bergoglio's writings, words or behavior.

Wuerl is Richard Nixon in a pointy hat.

Lying his arse off for twenty years, and now neck-deep in a cover-up.

The idea that he could not have known is simply not credible. When you take a high-level job like that...CEO, Head Coach, Governor, Archbishop.....you make it your business to learn absolutely EVERYTHING about your predecessor.

The risks of not knowing are far too great.

Catholic Laity has two purposes: the appointment of a worthy shepherd for Washington and establishing a means of communicating effectively with the U.S. hierarchy and the Holy See about Catholic life in the United States.
