Why is the Vatican taking action against the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary? (NHampshire)

The most zealous “Feeneyite” group in America is the Saint Benedict Center in Richmond, New Hampshire. The Center is run by the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Slaves also run a school and the popular blog Catholicism.org. They operate within the Diocese of Manchester, which allowed a priest in good standing to celebrate Mass in their chapel

The Saint Benedict Center has a long-standing dispute with the Church hierarchy – not only in New Hampshire, but also in Rome. On October 20, 2016, Mgr Giacomo Morandi, the Undersecretary (and now Secretary) of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) wrote to the Slaves’ leader, Brother Andre Marie Villarrubia. Morandi called the Slaves’ position on extra Ecclesiam nulla salus “unacceptable”.

.....snip......

Then, on January 7 this year, the Diocese of Manchester imposed stringent penalties that may very well spell the end for the Saint Benedict Center. As of that day, said the diocese, “under no circumstances may Catholics receive the sacraments of the Church at the Saint Benedict Center or any of its locations, nor should they participate in any activity provided by this group or school”. Furthermore, as of that date, “Catholic priests are under strict prohibition from celebrating the Sacraments of the Church there”.

Fr Georges de Laire, the vicar for canonical affairs for the Manchester diocese, said that he “met with the [current] Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith [Fr Matteo Visioli] this past May.”

....snip.....

Yet one must note that Bishop Peter Libasci of Manchester has arranged for a Latin Mass to be celebrated at a diocesan parish near the Saint Benedict Center while the January 7 prohibitions remain in effect.

Bishop Libasci himself is considered broadly conservative.

More drama brought about by Francis' CDF. Many issues here. What does the group in Richmond do next?

It's a tragedy. It's a comedy. A tragicomedy.

Sure does look like Malachi was right. This guy is the anti-pope. Gird your loins and gat right with God. Nobody knows the time of Armageddon, but this surely is a time of major battle.

Not A True Pastor, But A Destroyer

This small group is now orphaned.
Unlikely any traditional group will take them on and send a priest. RadTrads are so splintered.

And they won’t want to join any group because they don’t agree with anyone else.

Their 92-year-old priest died a few years back.
Help Wanted:
Anyone want to get ordained and go live in the New Hampshire woods?

Feeneyism is one of two streams of “radical traditionalist” Catholicism, the other being sedevacantism. So far as I know, they have always been opposed to each other, though I suppose it’s theoretically possible that they could join forces one day.

I am not Catholic, but I know the people at St. Benedict. Good people.

A few years back, the town tried to punish them for their outspoken traditional views on marriage by denying them building permits.

Long story short, St. Benedict Center was able to prevail in court using the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

They used to host a Blueberry Festival every Summer featuring name bluegrass bands, but bands started canceling because of their views on traditional marriage.

The community at large withdrew support, and the Blueberry Festival is now a thing of the past.

I recently encountered one of the brothers at the town hall, and asked him what he thought about the latest gaffe by the commie pope.

His only response was that they are praying for him.

I find it very unlikely that pope Frankie prays for them. Then again, given his proclivities, I would wonder to whom Frankie would be praying.

So many good things are lost to political correctness and intolerance.
